GEF Council Meeting Approves Largest Work Program to Date [viewed]

After the GEF Council unanimously decided to appoint Naoko Ishii (Japan) as the next GEF CEO/Chairperson, she greeted the Council and current CEO/Chairperson Monique Barbut.7 June 2012: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council approved a Work Program of 84 projects and two programmatic approaches amounting to US$667.26 million in GEF project grants, and appointed Naoko Ishii (Japan) as the GEF's new Chairperson and CEO.

EEA Calls for Increased Resource Efficiency [viewed]

UNEP Releases GEO-5 Results [viewed]

UNEP6 June 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has released the findings of the fifth edition of the Global Environmental Outlook (GEO-5) on the eve of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). GEO-5 assessed 90 environmental goals and objectives, and found that significant progress has been made in only four.

ECLAC to Strengthen Caribbean Coordination in Support of BPOA/MSI Implementation [viewed]

28 May 2012: At the fourth meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of the Caribbean's Regional Coordinating Mechanism (RCM) for the Mauritius Strategy for Implementation (MSI) of the Barbados Programme of Action (BPOA) for the Sustainable Development of small island developing States (SIDS), it was decided that the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) Subregional Headquarters for the Caribbean would review how best to strengthen regional coordination on the sustainable development agenda.
