23 September 2011: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has spotlighted a waste cooking oil recycling project, the Turn Grease into Fuel (TGIF) project, which collects over 36,000 gallons of waste cooking oil annually, and converts the grease into heating fuel and biodiesel.

29 July 2011: The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has reported that a ban on heavy fuel oil from the Antarctic will enter into force on 1 August 2011, and that a new North American Emission Control Area (ECA) will be created. The ban and ECA aim to reduce pollution in the Antarctic region.
The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Expanded Constituency Workshop will gather participants from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
