Bioversity Presents Action Plan for Mesoamerican Biodiversity and Agriculture Adaptation [viewed]

Bioversity International31 March 2014: Bioversity International has released the 'Strategic Action Plan to Strengthen Conservation and Use of Mesoamerican Plant Genetic Resources (PRG) in Adapting Agriculture to Climate Change' (SAPM). SAPM provides a ten-year road map for PGR conservation and use as means to improve food security and realize agricultural adaptation to climate change.

UN Participates in Earth Hour, Cape Town Wins City Challenge Award [viewed]

UN goes dark for the Earth Hour 201129 March 2014: The UN switched off all non-essential lighting at its Headquarters in New York, US, from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm Eastern Daylight Time in observance of this year's Earth Hour. Other UN offices in Geneva, Switzerland, and around the world also participated, turning off lights to reduce carbon emissions and call the world to action on climate change.

Event: 2014 CIF Partnership Forum [viewed]

The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) are jointly convening the 2014 CIF Partnership Forum, hosting more than 400 participants from civil society, the private sector, governments, indigenous peoples and academia. A special pre-conference event on 22 June, 'Stakeholder Day,' will be dedicated to discussing progress and challenges in engaging key stakeholders in the CIF's activities. During the conference, panels will address a variety of topics including managing climate change programs and unlocking private finance from mini-grids to REDD+. The CIF is the world's largest group of funds for climate action, channeling $8 billion to low carbon and climate resilient development.

Regional Climate Centre for Caribbean Launched [viewed]

WMOusaid27 March 2014: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Caribbean Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology (CIMH), with funding from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a Regional Climate Centre (RCC) for the Caribbean aimed at helping the Eastern Caribbean improve its ability to understand and predict current and future climate-related issues and build capacity for adaptation.

United Nations26 March 2014: On a visit to Uummannaq, Greenland, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon observed firsthand the consequences of climate change. Accompanied by Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt of Denmark and Premier Aleqa Hammond of Greenland, Ban expressed his alarm at how quickly the ice sheets covering Greenland have been melting.
