8 November 2012: UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark has announced that UNDP has joined the Climate and Clean Air Coalition. The Coalition is a partnership among governments, NGOs and international organizations that aims to tackle the challenges posed by short-lived climate pollutants, such as black carbon, hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and methane, at a global scale.
1 November 2012: During the Second Global Conference on Agricultural Research for Development (CGARD) a broad range of stakeholders discussed the importance of open access to agricultural research, best practices on engaging smallholder farmers and implementation of the GCARD six-point Road Map.
November 2012: As part of the global learning efforts on sustainable agriculture to help meet climate change mitigation goals, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released the materials and presentations from the 11 webinar sessions held during the month of September 2012 on "Conservation agriculture for climate change mitigation."
10 October 2012: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) convened phosphine fumigation training in Douala, Cameroon, from 8-10 October 2012. The training aimed to demonstrate available methyl bromide alternatives for the management of stored grain pests, and analyzed the application, efficacy, cost, availability, global warming potential, registration, phytotoxicity, and corrosiveness of alternatives.
26 September 2012: UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Executive Director Achim Steiner reported to the 120th Meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) on UNEP activities related to climate change, among other activities.
The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) will be presenting a live video science seminar on Mitigation Potential in the Livestock Sector, presented by Mario Herrero, senior agro-ecological systems analyst at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). The science seminar will cover the topic of mitigation potentials in the livestock sector, which will be followed by a 30-minute interactive discussion session.
7 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published the report of the 22nd meeting of the Least Developed Countries Expert Group (LEG) (FCCC/SBI/2012/27). The meeting was held in Funafuti, Tuvalu, from 26-29 September 2012. The report provides an update on the efforts of the LEG to implement its work.
7 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the latest round of public-private "lighthouse activities" in developing countries, as part of the Momentum for Change Initiative. Activities selected either contribute to curb greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions or help people adapt to climate change, while benefitting the urban poor.
2 November 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in partnership with the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), conducted a capacity building workshop on national level implementation of synergies among the Rio Conventions (CBD, the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)).
5 November 2012: A new report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) finds that two-thirds of the poor individuals raising livestock are women, and that they play an important role in maintaining indigenous breeds.
