ECA, UNEP and UNDP Organize Gender and Climate Sensitization Training Workshop [viewed]

© UNECA19 October 2009: Participants at a three-day sensitization training on gender and climate change resolved to encourage political leaders and African lead negotiators to integrate gender issues into the climate change negotiations ahead of COP 15 in Copenhagen. The training, which was part of the implementation of the Nairobi Declaration of the Network of Women Ministers and Leaders for the Environment, was organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the collaboration of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

IEA Ministerial Meeting Discusses Partnerships for Energy Challenges [viewed]

© IEA15 October 2009: The International Energy Agency (IEA) celebrated its 35th anniversary and considered the theme “Responding to Energy Challenges in Partnership” during its two-day Ministerial meeting in Paris, France, from 14-15 October 2009. The meeting gathered energy ministers from the 28 IEA member countries to share views on key energy and environment challenges. In addition, IEA partner countries China, India and Russia participated for the first time together and guest speakers Henry Kissinger and Etienne Davignon - two key founders of the IEA - and Rajendra Pachauri, Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), helped mark the anniversary milestone.

Ministerial Meeting Calls for Appropriate Recognition of Carbon Capture and Storage [viewed]

13 October 2009: The Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) – a ministerial-level initiative comprising developed and developing countries – agreed that the viability of carbon capture and storage (CCS) “should be appropriately recognized” as a key mitigation strategy in a future climate change agreement.
