14 May 2012: The European Environment Agency (EEA) has released a report on the challenges posed by climate change to urban areas in Europe and how cities can adapt to climate change. The report identifies climate change challenges and responses, describes means of planning urban adaptation, and examines how multi-level governance enables urban adaptation.

Asia-Pacific Human Development Report Discusses Climate Impacts for SIDS [viewed]

UNDP10 May 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released its regional human development report for the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on the need for the region to find ways to continue to grow economically, while reducing poverty and tackling climate change and environmental concerns. The report addresses climate challenges facing small island developing States (SIDS) in the region due their low elevation.

UN-HABITAT Report on the State of Arab Cities Focuses on Urban Transition [viewed]

May 2012: The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT) has released the 2012 edition of its regional report the State of Arab Cities on the theme “Challenges of Urban Transition.” The report notes that, although urban slums are decreasing and urban innovations are being introduced, the region still faces major challenges, including high youth unemployment rates and climate change.

UNFCCC Newsletter Focuses on Bonn Climate Change Negotiations [viewed]

UNFCCC11 May 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the May issue of its Newsletter, which focuses on the Bonn Climate Change Conference that will take place from 14-25 May 2012, in Germany. UNDP Asia Pacific Human Development Report Focuses on Progress in a Changing Climate [viewed]

UNDP10 May 2012:  The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released its regional human development report for Asia Pacific, titled "One Planet to Share – Sustaining Human Progress in a Changing Climate." The report emphasizes that, to achieve a shift to a greener economy, countries in the region will need to change their production patterns, including in the energy, industrial and agricultural sectors.

Event: First Meeting of the Joint Implementation Designated Focal Points Forum (DFP Forum) [viewed]

The purpose of this first meeting of the Joint Implementation (JI) Designated Focal Points (DFP) Forum is to provide a platform for representatives of DFPs and national focal points (NFPs), as well as other stakeholders, to: discuss, enhance and harmonize the implementation of JI; coordinate their liaison with the JI Supervisory Committee (JISC); and to provide capacity building and experience sharing exercises. During this first meeting, the DFP Forum will hold open sessions to interact with project developers, accredited independent entities and NGOs. The deadline for stakeholder registration is 11 May 2012.

FAO Note Provides Overview of Agriculture in UNFCCC Negotiations [viewed]

FAO9 May 2012: Ahead of the first UNFCCC climate change negotiations since the Durban Climate Change Conference concluded in South Africa at the end of 2011, the Economics and Policy Innovations for Climate-Smart Agriculture (EPIC) Programme at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a note that aims to help participants follow the UNFCCC agenda items relevant to agriculture.
