European Commission Launches Urban Adaptation Project [viewed]

17 April 2012: The European Commission Directorate General (DG) Climate Action has launched a project to help European cities adapt to climate change. The project, with is placed with a consortium led by ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and others, will prepare cities to address the challenges posed by climate change through capacity building, exchange of knowledge and best practices, and the development of tools and guidance.

UNCCD Invites Applications for African Journalists Workshop [viewed]

April 2012: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is organizing a series of regional media workshops on desertification, land degradation and drought (DLDD) in the lead up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), and has recently called for applications from African journalists specialized in the environment.

UNEP, SPC Assess Threats to Pacific Freshwater Resources [viewed]

World Bank, IMF Report on MDGs Progress [viewed]

April 2012: The World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have published the 2012 Global Monitoring Report (GMR) on progress in meeting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This year's edition, titled “Food Prices, Nutrition, and the Millennium Development Goals,” highlights the need to help developing countries deal with the harmful effects of higher and more volatile food prices.

Event: Global Bioenergy Partnership: 2nd Working Group on Capacity Building [viewed]

The Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) Working Group on Capacity Building for Sustainable Bioenergy promotes the dissemination, use, and implementation of the outcomes of the GBEP Task Forces on GHG Methodologies and on Sustainability through activities and projects. GBEP and its Partners comprise 23 countries and 13 international organizations and institutions, including the: Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), European Commission, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), International Energy Agency (IEA), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN/DESA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Foundation, World Council for Renewable Energy (WCRE) and European Biomass Industry Association (EUBIA). A further 22 countries and 11 International Organizations and institutions are participating as Observers, including: the African Development Bank (AfDB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), European Environment Agency (EEA), Global Environment Facility (GEF), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Organization of American States (OAS), Union Economique et Monétaire Ouest Africaine (UEMOA), World Bank and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD). Current GBEP Partners and Observers account for the majority of bioenergy produced in the world. GBEP Partners alone account for the vast majority of modern bioenergy, including liquid biofuels.

Sixth Community-Based Adaptation Conference Focuses on Communication [viewed]

22 April 2012: The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) Sixth International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation (CBA6) brought stakeholders and practitioners together to discuss community-based adaptation (CBA) planning and practices. The conference focused on communicating how communities are adapting to climate change, and addressed the following themes: scaling-up CBA; water resources; biodiversity and forests; coastal zones; health; disaster risk reduction (DRR); and vulnerable communities, including indigenous people.

UNDP's Baobab Coalition Journal Highlights Training of Climate Journalists [viewed]

April 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released January-April 2012 issue of The Baobab Coalition Journal, a publication that reports on the community activities and efforts carried out under the Africa Adaptation Programme (AAP).
