Event: Asia-Pacific Training for Policymakers and Practitioners on Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Adaptation [viewed]

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) will conduct a two-day training for Asia-Pacific policy makers and practitioners on the migration-environment nexus, in collaboration with the Foresight Programme (Government Office for Science, UK), the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The training aims to build the capacity of policy makers and practitioners to address migration challenges within climate change, development and environment policies and strategies. The training will also facilitate exchanges among policymakers and practitioners on climate change, environment and migration, with a particular focus on migration management policies. The training will be held back to back with the Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum.

UNESCO Launches Online Climate Change Course for Sustainable Development [viewed]

UNESCO20 February 2013: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has announced the launch of an online Course for Secondary Teachers on Climate Change Education for Sustainable Development (CCESD). The training kit, which features a series of six-day programmes, is designed to support secondary teachers in helping young people understand the causes and consequences of climate change.

Burundi, Rwanda Collaborate to Increase Climate Resilience and Water Security [viewed]

22 February 2013: The Governments of Burundi and Rwanda are collaborating on integrated water resources management (IWRM) as part of the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), a Global Water Partnership (GWP) project. WACDEP aims to increase climate resilience and water security in the Kagera water basin catchment, which is part of the Rwanda-Burundi Cyohoha transboundary catchment area.

Event: Third Asia-Pacific Climate Change Adaptation Forum [viewed]

The forum aims to assist government, community and business decision-makers at all levels to develop appropriate climate change and development strategies and to build their capacity to adapt to a changing climate. The forum will focus on the overall theme "Mainstreaming Adaptation into Development" and will include four sub-themes: adaptation strategies; critical and neglected groups; adaptation in sectors and systems; and knowledge management for adaptation. The co-organizers are the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Institute for Global Environment Strategies (IGES), the Regional Resource Centre for Asia and the Pacific (RRC.AP), and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). It will precede the Asia-Pacific Training for Policymakers and Practitioners on Migration, Environment, Climate Change and Adaptation.

CIF to Release US$50 million to AfDB for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in Nigeria [viewed]

22 February 2013: The Climate Investment Funds (CIF) will release US$50 million to stimulate energy efficiency and renewable energy generation in Nigeria. The funds, administered by CIF's Clean Technology Fund (CTF), will be used to support investments by local banks in efficient, clean and affordable energy, as part an existing program of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

UNESCO Updates on Resilience of Coastal and Small Island Communities Project [viewed]

25 February 2013: The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has reported on recent developments within the framework of the Strengthening Resilience of Coastal and Small Island Communities towards Hydro‐meteorological Hazards and Climate Change Impacts (StResCom) project, funded by the Japan Funds-in-Trust (JFIT). StResCom project is a three-year project implemented in Indonesia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste.

Event: Right Here Right Now [viewed]

The Connect4Climate event "Right Here Right Now" aims to celebrate youth's engagement in climate change action. With a keynote address by World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, the event will launch the Africa charity CD, "C4C special edition Rhythms del Mundo," which features live performances by Kenyan rappers TS1, award-winning Malian musician Rokia Traore, and a live DJ set by MTVs Izzy Lawrence. Other event participants include: Sustainable Development Network Vice President Rachel Kyte; External Affairs Vice President Cyril Muller; Africa Vice President Makhtar Diop; Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii; Italian Minister of the Environment Corrado Clini; and Nobel Prize Laureate Betty Williams. Launched by the World Bank, the Italian Ministry of Environment, and the GEF in collaboration with over 150 knowledge partners in September 2011, Connect4Climate (C4C) is a global partnership programme dedicated to climate change communication.
