Event: Wadden Sea Climate Training [viewed]

This training, organized by the British Council in collaboration with UNEP/GRID-Arendal and Youth in Action, will be attended by 21 young people from 15 European countries. Participants will examine the environmental, cultural and socio-economic impacts of climate change on the Wadden Sea ecosystem, and use their experiences and acquired knowledge to encourage their peers to become environmentally responsible citizens.

UNCCD Executive Secretary Highlights Initiatives to Combat Desertification [viewed]

18 April 2012: In a recent opinion piece, Luc Gnacadja, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), calls for action at the local, national and global levels "to give farmers the lead, and promote sustainable land use and re-greening initiatives." He also suggests that the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) should make this a top priority.

UNISDR Launches Local Government Self-Assessment Tool [viewed]

18 April 2012: As part of its Making Cities Resilient Campaign, the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has launched the Local Government Self Assessment Tool, to support cities in managing disaster risk. UNISDR reports that 2011 was the worst year on record for economic losses from disasters.

FAO Releases Asia-Pacific Forestry Briefs [viewed]

FAOApril 2012: Policy briefs resulting from the second Asia-Pacific Forestry Sector Outlook Study (APFSOS II) highlight concerns with biodiversity loss in the region, a need for improved governance and better forest management at the field level, and a call for enhanced training and awareness of forestry issues.
