Event: Negotiating Climate Change Finance [viewed]

The Multilateral Diplomacy Programme of the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in cooperation with Germanwatch, has developed this e-learning course on “Negotiating Climate Change Finance," which will be conducted from 24 October-18 November 2011. The aim of the course is to provide the skills and knowledge needed for participation in multilateral negotiations, particularly under the UNFCCC. It will enhance participants' understanding of the key objectives and instruments of international climate finance, the multilateral policy framework and key negotiation issues crucial to reaching a post-2012 agreement, particularly with respect to the forthcoming 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 17).

PAHO Adopts Strategy and Action Plan on Climate Change [viewed]

30 September 2011: The 51st Directing Council of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) adopted a new strategy and action plan on climate change drafted by the PAHO Secretariat. These documents call on countries in the Americas to develop national climate change strategies with technical help from PAHO and the World Health Organization (WHO), as well as national campaigns to increase awareness of the health risks of climate change.

ECLAC Warns Caribbean Countries Against Costs of Inaction on Climate Change [viewed]

26 September 2011: A new UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) report estimates that mitigating and adapting to climate change could cost Caribbean countries 2-3% of their annual GDP between 2011 and 2050, but that the cost of inaction could be as high as 5% of annual GDP.
