UN Secretary-General's Synthesis Report Proposes 6 Elements for Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

syntesis-proposal4 December 2014: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has released an advance version of his synthesis report on the post-2015 development agenda, titled ‘The Road to Dignity by 2030: Ending Poverty, Transforming All Lives and Protecting the Planet.' In the report, Ban proposes an integrated set of six essential elements: dignity; people; prosperity; planet; justice; and partnership.

LEG Reviews National Adaptation Planning Progress [viewed]

limacop202 December 2014: On the margins of the Lima Climate Change Conference, the Least Developed Countries (LDC) Expert Group (LEG) presented an overview of the LEG programme at a side event organized by the UNFCCC Secretariat. The event discussed the LEG programme's first regional workshop for Pacific LDCs on National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) and highlighted an information paper on the gaps and needs in the formulation of NAPs.

TWN, South Centre Highlight Equity as Gateway to Mitigation and Adaptation Ambition [viewed]

Event: Second UN Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Forum [viewed]

The second annual Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) Forum will continue the momentum from the launch of the UN Decade of SE4ALL (2014-2024) at the first annual Forum, which took place in June 2014. The Forums were envisioned as annual events that will provide benchmarks for progress during the Decade. UN Member States will use the global platform as an opportunity to "take stock and push forward". The event is expected to include governments, civil society and the initiative's partner organizations, who will present their work, form partnerships and commit to further action. The Forum will also facilitate coordinating input from SE4ALL to other processes, such as climate change negotiations and the post-2015 development agenda. The SE4ALL initiative aims, by 2030, to ensure universal energy access to modern energy services, double the global rate of improvement in energy efficiency and double the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix.

REEEP, IDS Side Event Highlights "Climate Knowledge Grid" [viewed]

limacop201 December 2014: The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) and Institute of Development Studies (IDS) organized a side event, titled 'Innovation and Collaboration for Transforming Knowledge into Climate Action,' at the Lima Climate Change Conference. The Climate Knowledge Brokers (CKB) Group presented their efforts as "21st century librarians" to differentiate between useful and non-useful climate change information.

Adaptation Finance Side Event Promotes Accountability, Transparency and Monitoring in Project Management [viewed]

limacop201 December 2014: Participants addressed approaches to adaptation finance, including mainstreaming funds from the global to the national level and the importance of direct access at an event convened on the sidelines of the Lima Climate Change Conference. The event, titled 'Adaptation Finance: Global to Local Perspectives,' emphasized the value of accountability for failed projects, credibility of National Implementing Entities (NIEs) and internalizing the cost of climate change for polluters responsible for it.

UN Climate Change Conference Opens in Lima, Peru [viewed]

UNFCCC1 December 2014: The UN Climate Change Conference opened in Lima, Peru, and will continue through 12 December. Delegates are expected “to lay the foundation” for a new climate agreement in Paris in 2015, work towards streamlining elements of a draft agreement for Paris and explore common ground on unresolved issues in order to achieve a balanced draft text.
