UNDP, UNITAR Hold Training on Climate Change for Zimbabwean Officials [viewed]

28 September 2012: The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Zimbabwe held a training course for Zimbabwean government officials in preparation for the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled to take place in Doha, Qatar, at the end of 2012.

GEF SGP Projects Promote Energy Efficiency, Combat Climate Change in Ukraine [viewed]

31 October 2012: The Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme (SGP) has provided financial support to implement three demonstration projects to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Ukraine. The projects, implemented by the UN Development Programme (UNDP), promote solar energy use for electricity production and hot water heating, and raise community awareness on energy efficiency and energy saving measures.

UNEP, China Launch Efficient Lighting Centre [viewed]

The GELC is designed to support the rapid deployment of energy-efficient technologies in developing and emerging countries, and is a joint initiative of UNEP and the Chinese National Lighting Test Centre.

Event: Negotiating Effectively under the UNFCCC [viewed]

This event is being organized by the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in cooperation with UK sustainability consultancy AEA and the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN) Advocacy Fund. It is targeted at representatives/delegates from UN Member States, particularly those from poor and climate vulnerable countries. It aims to provide them with the information, skills and techniques they need to participate effectively in the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 18), which is taking place in November-December 2012, as well as in UNFCCC negotiation sessions thereafter.

IPC-IG Publishes Brief on Climate Change, Food Security and Gender in Caribbean SIDS [viewed]

October 2012: The International Policy Centre for Inclusive Growth (IPC-IG) has released a Policy Research Brief that argues that small-scale, ecologically sensitive farming and fishing represents a way to: address food security by integrating sound farming practices and reduce import dependence; shelter domestic food markets from international prices; and protect biodiversity in Caribbean SIDS.
