Caribbean Conference Assesses GEF Project on Watershed and Coastal Area Management [viewed]

Event: UNU Conference on Earth System Governance [viewed]

The Earth System Governance Tokyo Conference will be jointly hosted by the UN University Institute of Advanced Studies (UNU-IAS), the International Environmental Governance Architecture Research Group and the Tokyo Institute of Technology on behalf of the Earth System Governance Project. It will focus on the following five thematic areas: architecture of Earth system governance in the 21st century; climate governance architecture; the nexus between architecture and the other “As”; political dynamics on emerging agencies and architecture; and nuclear safety and post-disaster governance.

GEF Supports Voluntary Mitigation Mechanism in Colombia [viewed]

UN/ISDR Pilots Resilience Local Government Self-Assessment Tool [viewed]

14 December 2011: The UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UN/ISDR) has announced that, together with the ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability, it has piloted the Local Government Self-Assessment Tool (LG-SAT), designed to assist disaster reduction efforts by cities and local governments that have signed up to the global "Making Cities Resilient" Campaign.

UNEP Launches iPhone App on Ecosystems and Climate Change [viewed]

The Blue and REDD Carbon iPhone application was launched at the Eye on Earth Summit, which is convening in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

UN and South African Government Support Access to Sustainable Energy [viewed]

UNDP9 December 2011: UN agencies and the Government of South Africa have launched a pilot project that aims to provide access to clean energy to communities outside of Durban. The project is expected to deliver clean cooking, lighting systems and solar-heated water for clinics and schools in Ilembe District.
