UNFCCC, Rockefeller Foundation Launch Initiative on Women and Climate Change [viewed]

6 December 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat and the Rockefeller Foundation launched a new initiative, titled “Momentum for Change: Women for Results,” on the sidelines of the 18th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 18) to the UNFCCC in Doha, Qatar. The Initiative aims to showcase the role of women in climate change adaptation and mitigation activities.

Event: European Forest Week 2013 [viewed]

This week will be celebrated under the theme 'The role of forests and forest products in a Green Economy' and will focus on the contribution of forests to the green economy. The main celebrations will be centred on Metsä 2013, the joint session of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) European Forestry Commission. Additional events will be held throughout Europe.

Event: Africa Adaptation Knowledge Network (AAKNET) Workshop [viewed]

This workshop will be convened under the theme "Convening Adaptation Knowledge Networks and Platforms in Africa". The Africa Adaptation Knowledge Network is facilitated by UNEP under the umbrella of the Global Adaptation Network (GAN). It is based on the recognition that: Africa is particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change; adaptation is a knowledge-intensive undertaking; and access to relevant and usable knowledge is an important prerequisite for successful adaptation efforts. The Network functions as a knowledge hub on adaptation, promoting cooperation and collaboration in seeking robust solutions to climate change impacts using experiences and lessons learnt from the implementation of independent actions in different locations. It also seeks to convene existing adaptation knowledge networks and platforms in Africa to open a window of opportunity for taking stock of the state of adaptation knowledge mobilization on the continent.

UNFCCC, The Climate Group to Encourage Business and Government Leadership on Climate [viewed]

Specifically, they will join efforts of the Climate Group's "Clean Revolution" campaign and the UN Climate Change Secretariat's "Momentum for Change" initiative.

OES Envisions That Ocean Energy Could Save 1 Billion Tonnes of CO2 Emissions by 2050 [viewed]

4 December 2012: The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Implementing Agreement on Ocean Energy Systems (OES) has released a new brochure, titled "An International Vision for Ocean Energy," which puts forward the vision that an increase of installed wave and tidal energy capacity to 337 GW by 2050 can lead to the creation of 1.2 million direct jobs, and 1 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions savings.

COP 18 Participants Celebrate “Lighthouse Activities” to Address Climate Change [viewed]
