Approximately one-third of global crop production is lost every year to plant insects and diseases, including migratory insects and diseases, referred to as transboundary plant pests, which spread to a number of countries and can reach epidemic proportions in which control and management require cooperation between those countries. Climate change is expected to affect, where crops are cultivated, the distribution of plant pests, the introduction of new pests, the frequency of major pest outbreaks, and the risk of pesticide residues in food.

CIAT Highlights Climate Change Impacts on Beans in Central America [viewed]

ciat_ccafs8 February 2016: Researchers from the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), under the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), have published a study, titled 'Assessing high-impact spots of climate change: spatial yield simulations with Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer (DSSAT) model.' The study evaluates the effects of climate change on bean production in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, concluding that future climate change may threaten the production of drybeans.

Event: First International Agrobiodiversity Congress 2016 [viewed]

Organized by the Indian Society of Plant Genetic Resources and Bioversity International, a member of the CGIAR Consortium, this event will provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss issues and ideas around the sustainable management of agricultural biodiversity.
