Event: Fourth High-Level Round Table on the ITPGR [viewed]

Titled 'The International Treaty, Climate Change and Food Security,' the Fourth High-Level Round Table on the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) will take place on the occasion of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly and the UN Secretary General's Climate Change Summit. It aims to facilitate high-level discussion of how monetary and non-monetary benefits generated from the utilization of plant germplasm under the Treaty can support agricultural innovation for breeding climate-smart seeds; discuss how to address climate change impacts on food crops through Treaty systems; and showcase the value of the Treaty's Benefit-sharing Fund and its projects for climate adaptation of food crops.

July 2014 Water Finance Update [viewed]

World Bank-AfDB-ADB-IDB-EBRD-GEFJuly 2014: The World Bank, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) undertook a variety of activities during July. Projects were approved across Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe, addressing issues such as transboundary water management, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) services, hydropower and climate resilience.

Arctic Council Task Force Discusses Advancing Scientific Cooperation [viewed]

Arctic Council23 July 2014: The Scientific Cooperation Task Force (SCTF) of the Arctic Council held its third meeting and exchanged views on a draft document related to advancing scientific cooperation among the Arctic States. The Task Force will continue working on the document at its next meeting in September in Tromsø, Norway.

Event: Global Landscapes Forum [viewed]

The second Global Landscapes Forum will be convened on the margins of the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC by the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Government of Peru. The Forum will consider the landscape approach within the framework of climate change and development. Themes will include food, water and energy; climate change; the green economy; and sustainable development.

OWG Concludes Work, Submits SDG Proposal to UNGA [viewed]

Indigenous Mountain Communities Discuss Climate Change, Food Security [viewed]

Mountain Partnership14 July 2014: Indigenous mountain communities from nine countries formed an International Network of Mountain Indigenous Peoples at a workshop in Bhutan. The workshop, which discussed how to respond to climate change impacts on their food and farming systems, resulted in the Bhutan Declaration on Climate Change and Mountain Indigenous Peoples.

Event: The Challenges of a Living List: Making Progress on a Green Goods Agreement [viewed]

Negotiations on a green goods agreement, announced earlier this year in Davos, Switzerland by 14 World Trade Organization (WTO) Members, will aim to create an initial and “living list” of green goods to be revised as technology evolves. This half-day event organized by the Geneva offices of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) and the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) will bring together practitioners, experts and administrators from a variety of agreements that have faced the challenges of a “living list,” to discuss their experiences and lessons learned for consideration by the WTO. Speakers will include John Scanlon, Secretary‐General, Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), Aaron Cosbey, Associate and Senior Advisor, IISD, and Ambassador Jonathan Fried, Permanent Representative of Canada to the WTO, among others. The event takes place on the eve of the WTO Public Forum.
