UNEA-2 Discusses Implementation of 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement [viewed]

unep_may1628 May 2015: The second session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) has concluded with the adoption of 24 resolutions as well as decisions about UNEA-3. Some major areas of focus of the meeting included, inter alia: implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement; illegal trade in wildlife; and marine litter and debris. UNEA-2 convened under the theme, 'Delivering on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.'

G7 Declaration Supports Action on 2030 Agenda, Paris Agreement on Climate Change [viewed]

g7_201627 May 2016: The 2016 Group of 7 (G7) Ise-Shima Summit in Japan adopted a Declaration that addresses major global economic and political challenges, and commits to making progress on development, economic and security issues to ensure global peace, security and prosperity. In the Declaration, leaders commit to efforts to implement commitments of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board Discusses Final Recommendations on Climate Change, Indigenous and Local Knowledge, Food Security [viewed]

United Nations25 May 2016: The fifth meeting of the UN Secretary-General's Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) met to finalize the Board's recommendations to the UN Secretary-General on climate change and climate-induced risk, indigenous and local knowledge and science, science and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, food security and health, and future scientific advice to the UN Secretary-General and the UN system. The Board is working to finalize policy briefs on each of these issues, which are expected to contain recommendations to support the timely implementation of the 2030 Agenda and focus on modalities for engaging science.

UNEP Releases Tool to Support Coral Reef Conservation [viewed]

Environmental Degradation Leading Cause of Deaths Globally, Says UN Report [viewed]

Healthy Environment - Healthy People23 May 2016: Environmental degradation and pollution cause almost a quarter of all deaths, up to 234 times as many premature deaths as occur in conflicts annually and the deaths of more than 25% of all children under the age of five, according to a UN report released to coincide with the second session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-2). The report, titled ‘Healthy Environment, Healthy People,' emphasizes the importance of a healthy environment to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and addresses dangers posed by air pollution, chemicals, climate change and other issues linking environmental quality to health.
