Africa Day Focuses on Agriculture and Climate Change [viewed]

africa-days-event19 November 2013: Africa Day, a full-day event held on the margins of the Warsaw Climate Change Conference, brought together African leaders, scientists and other stakeholders to discuss climate change and agricultural development on the continent. Presented by the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the African Development Bank (AfDB), the event aimed to reach African development partners as well as negotiators from other regions.

Ocean Acidification Report Highlights Climate Change Link and Need for Greater Observation and Coordination [viewed]

UNESCO IOC18 November 2013: During a side-event to Warsaw Climate Change Conference, the UN Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched a publication titled 'Ocean Acidification: Summary for Policymakers,' the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) presented its Ocean Acidification Coordination Centre, and recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) findings on ocean acidification were discussed.

CBD Secretariat Invites Parties' Submissions on Geo-Engineering-Related Measures [viewed]

CBD12 November 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has invited parties to submit information on any measures they have undertaken to ensure that no climate-related geo-engineering activities that may affect biodiversity take place, and to address the exception for small-scale scientific research studies contained in CBD Decision X/33, subparagraph 8(w) on geo-engineering.

OECD Finds Successful Green Economy in Austria, Recommends Improvements [viewed]

OECD6 November 2013: Austria's green economy and environmental performance meet high standards, according to an assessment from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), but has room for improvement on pollution and other issues. The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) for 2013 highlights progress made since the previous report for Austria, in 2003. EPRs of OECD member countries are now in their third cycle.

PROFOR Highlights Forest-based EBA in Honduras [viewed]

Event: Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas [viewed]

Bioversity International is co-organizing a seminar to explore practical approaches and solutions to nutrition and sustainability in Rome, Italy, together with the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Governments of Malawi and Flanders. The seminar, 'Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas,' will be held at FAO headquarters. The seminar will bring together some 300 scientists, policymakers, experts, students and practitioners to develop responses to countries' requests about "why?" and "how?" to link nutrition and sustainability, and to discuss the tradeoffs. Virtual participation is also welcome by contacting the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition Secretariat.
