OECD Finds Successful Green Economy in Austria, Recommends Improvements [viewed]

OECD6 November 2013: Austria's green economy and environmental performance meet high standards, according to an assessment from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), but has room for improvement on pollution and other issues. The Environmental Performance Review (EPR) for 2013 highlights progress made since the previous report for Austria, in 2003. EPRs of OECD member countries are now in their third cycle.

PROFOR Highlights Forest-based EBA in Honduras [viewed]

Event: Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas [viewed]

Bioversity International is co-organizing a seminar to explore practical approaches and solutions to nutrition and sustainability in Rome, Italy, together with the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), and the Governments of Malawi and Flanders. The seminar, 'Nutrition and Sustainability: A practical approach to integrating climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems, nutrition and health agendas,' will be held at FAO headquarters. The seminar will bring together some 300 scientists, policymakers, experts, students and practitioners to develop responses to countries' requests about "why?" and "how?" to link nutrition and sustainability, and to discuss the tradeoffs. Virtual participation is also welcome by contacting the UN Standing Committee on Nutrition Secretariat.

GEF Council Approves US$259.84 Million Work Program [viewed]

45th-meeting-of-the-GEF-Council7 November 2013: The 45th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council considered, inter alia: the progress report on the pilot accreditation of GEF Project Agencies; the mid-term evaluation of the System for Transparent Allocation of Resources (STAR); the mid-term evaluation of the National Portfolio Formulation Exercise (NPFE); an update on the GEF-6 replenishment; a review of GEF Agencies on their application of environmental and social safeguards and gender mainstreaming; and an update on the development of the GEF 2020 strategy. The GEF Council also approved a Work Program amounting to US$259.84 million.

CSO Consultation Discusses GEF2020 Strategy Ahead of Council Meeting [viewed]

Naoko Ishii, GEF CEO and Chairperson4 November 2013: The GEF Council Consultation Meeting with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) convened on 4 November 2013, the day before the 45th meeting of the GEF Council opened in Washington, DC, US. During an opening dialogue, Global Environment Facility (GEF) CEO and Chairperson Naoko Ishii discussed the GEF 2020 strategy and emphasized that it is important to have a long-term strategy encompassing an environmental degradation driver-focused approach. She also welcomed Conservation International and WWF-US as two new GEF Project Agencies.
