CBD Selects Sponsored Experts for REDD Workshop [viewed]

18 August 2010: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated the list of sponsored experts for the Global Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Benefits of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries (REDD), to be held from 20-23 September 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya.

Event: Japan-CARICOM Public Symposium on Climate Change and Biodiversity [viewed]

This public symposium is co-organized by the UN University (UNU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). It will be held back-to-back with the second Japan-Caribbean Community (CARICOM) ministerial-level conference and will bring together the foreign ministers of the 15 CARICOM member countries. The ministers will be joined by Japanese academics and experts to discuss the threats from climate change faced by CARICOM countries, in particular those that are small island States. These include more frequent and intense hurricanes, subsequent flooding and erosion, and rising sea level. The symposium will also explore further cooperation between CARICOM and Japan.

Event: Second Intersessional Meeting for UNCSD [viewed]

The first meeting of the Preparatory Committee (PrepCom I) of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) called for three intersessional meetings to be convened ahead of the June 2012 event. Intersessional II will take place on 15-16 December 2011. The Organization of Work, preliminary programme of side events, and Guidance Note from the Bureau are available on the meeting webpage.

Event: Pacific Environment and Conservation Workers Meeting [viewed]

The meeting is organized by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) and aims to prepare a unified Pacific position on biodiversity for the tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 10) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Key issues that will be discussed at the meeting include: climate change and biodiversity; invasive species; marine and coastal biodiversity; protected areas; sustainable financing; forest biodiversity; access and benefit sharing; traditional knowledge and agriculture biodiversity. In addition, the meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss the new SPREP Strategic Plan and Targets and linkages with the other multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs).

UNDP, Ecuador to Protect Ecuadorian Amazon [viewed]
