CBD COP Presidencies Adopt Ministerial Call for Action [viewed]

3 September 2010: Meeting for the first time as a group, 11 ministers responsible for the environment, representing former and upcoming presidencies of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), gathered on 3 September 2010, in Geneva, Switzerland, and adopted the Geneva Ministerial Biodiversity Call for Immediate Action.

Event: Kenya's International Conference on Biodiversity, Land Use and Climate Change [viewed]

Event: 12th Meeting of the Adaptation Fund Board [viewed]

The Adaptation Fund Board was established as the operating entity of the Adaptation Fund with the mandate to supervise and manage the Adaptation Fund under the authority and guidance of the CMP. At its 12th meeting, the Adaptation Fund Board will discuss several project proposals submitted for funding, and the accreditation of further implementing entities, among other matters. The Board will also engage in a dialogue with representatives from the civil society at the end of the meeting.

Solomon Islands Qualifies for Adaptation Fund [viewed]

26 August 2010: Solomon Islands is the first country in the Pacific, and the fourth country worldwide, to qualify for the Adaptation Fund under the UNFCCC, which will finance projects in vulnerable developing countries aimed to help adapt their agricultural resources and food security to climate change threats.

23 August 2010: The Second International Conference on Climate, Sustainability and Development in Semi-arid Regions (ICID 2010), which convened in Fortaleza, Brazil, from 16-20 August 2010, brought together participants to discuss climate change and sustainable development in arid and semi-arid regions, and sought to raise the priority of these issues on the agenda of the 2012 UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20).
