SPREP, Coral Triangle Initiative-CFF Cooperate on Marine Conservation [viewed]

sprep-cticff22 September 2015: The Coral Triangle Initiative on Coral Reefs, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) at the 26th Annual SPREP Meeting, which is convening in Apia, Samoa. The CTI-CFF and SPREP will collaborate on a regional community-based turtle conservation project.

Equator Prize Announces 2015 Winners [viewed]

equatorinitiative21 September 2015: The 21 winning initiatives of the 2015 Equator Prize include a indigenous group in Brazil that inspired the film 'Avatar'; a conservation group in Indonesia that is saving sea turtles; a movement for pygmy rights in the Democratic Republic of Congo; and a community-based organization in the poorest region of Afghanistan that is restoring areas affected by conflict and creating new jobs. The prize is the "flagship programme" of the Equator Initiative, a partnership that brings together the UN, governments, civil society, businesses and grassroots organizations to advance sustainable development solutions.

EU, Republic of Korea Discuss Climate, Sustainable Development, Energy [viewed]

Four Arctic Council Working Groups Address Cross-Cutting Issues at "Historic" Joint Meetings [viewed]

Arctic Council18 September 2015: Four of the six Arctic Council Working Groups met in parallel from 14-18 September 2015, in Tromsø, Norway. According to the Arctic Council Secretariat, the meeting was unprecedented, allowing the four Working Groups to meet in a joint session mid-week to discuss cross-cutting issues. Arctic State and indigenous Permanent Participant organization delegates to the Arctic Contaminants Action Program (ACAP), Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP), Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF) and Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment (PAME) Working Groups were joined by accredited intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations and non-Arctic State observers for the meetings.

Funded by the European Union, LEO provides an overview of relationships between multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), as well as concepts, definitions and synonyms found in these conventions.

ICAO Seminar Focuses on Partnerships for Emissions Reductions in Aviation [viewed]

Icao17 September 2015: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) hosted a 'Multiplying Environmental Action Seminar' as part of its Global Aviation Partnerships on Emissions Reductions (E-GAP) initiative. The seminar shared actions related to aircraft technology, recycling of aircraft, next generation air navigation and green operations, sustainable alternative fuels and renewable energy, financing for aviation environmental activities, and carbon markets, with a view to sparking further action and creating a multiplier effect.

Panelists-for-the-Innovation-and-Investment Forum11 September 2015: Held from 7-11 September 2015, in Durban, South Africa, the fourteenth World Forestry Congress (XIV WFC) concluded with a declaration setting out a vision for 2050 that sees forests playing a decisive role for food security, improved livelihoods and in the fight against climate change.
