Rio+20 Adopts "The Future We Want" Outcome Document, Voluntary Pledges Reported to Reach US$513 Billion [viewed]

22 June 2012: The third and final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), Pre-Conference Informal Consultations Facilitated by the Host Country, and the UNCSD convened back-to-back in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 13-22 June 2012. During their ten days in Rio, government delegations concluded negotiations on the Rio outcome document, titled “The Future We Want.”

Rio Conventions Pavilion Convenes for City Day [viewed]

22 June 2012: The Rio Conventions Pavilion at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) convened for City Day, on 22 June 2012. The event included three panel events on: local leadership driving global change; cities spurring change - tools and techniques for integrated urban planning; and a sustainable future for our children - the FRUSATO movement. A closing session addressed lessons learned and next steps following Rio+20.

UNEP, EU Committee of the Regions Sign MoU on Sustainable Cities [viewed]

UNESCO-IOC Reports on Robotic Sensors, Awareness Raising Boat Race [viewed]

UNESCO IOC28 June 2012: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has reported that, during the transatlantic Krys Ocean Race from France to New York, US, a boat representing the Multi One Attitude Foundation deployed ocean robots to conduct ocean monitoring.

UNCCD Calls for Expressions of Interest for Lead Institution/Consortium to Organize 3rd Scientific Conference [viewed]

Nordic Council Adopts Nidaros Declaration on Food Production and Green Growth [viewed]

Event: 43rd Meeting of the GEF Council [viewed]

The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Council meets twice per year to approve new projects with global environmental benefits in the GEF's focal areas, and provide guidance to the GEF Secretariat and Agencies. In addition to the 43rd meeting of the GEF Council, from 13-15 November, a consultation with NGOs will take place on 12 November and the 13th meeting of the LDCF/SCCF Council will convene on 15 November.

The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) Council meets twice per year to approve new projects with global environmental benefits in the GEF's focal areas, and provide guidance to the GEF Secretariat and Agencies. Among other matters, the 44th session of the Council is expected to discuss the GEF's role vis-à-vis the global mercury agreement. A consulation with CSOs will take place on 17 June.
