Francophone Countries Discuss Linkages Among Land, Climate and SDGs [viewed]

francophone_unccd19 October 2015: The Institut de la Francophonie pour le Développement Durable (IFDD), a subsidiary body of the International Organization of the Francophonie (IOF), under the chairmanship of Senegal and in cooperation with the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) Secretariat, organized a discussion on the topic of how to use the fight against climate change and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as leverage for soil preservation. UNDP Highlights Links between Poverty Reduction and Adaptation [viewed]

Undp13 October 2015: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has published a report that showcases the experiences and knowledge generated through the various UNDP initiatives on adaptation, and how countries have been working on national initiatives to transition to green, inclusive, climate-resilient development paths. The report, titled 'Empowering the Poor: Experience from UNDP supported Initiatives on Adaptation,' features 12 case studies that illustrate that adaptation and poverty reduction are inherently linked and must be addressed simultaneously.

Adaptation Fund Board Approves Projects on Agriculture, Watershed Development [viewed]

WBG/IMF Annual Meetings Address Climate Change, SDGs [viewed]

wbg.imf11 October 2015: The 2015 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which met from 9-11 October 2015 in Lima, Peru, were the first to be held in Latin America since 1967. The meetings consisted of plenary sessions, panel discussions and seminars, which addressed, inter alia, inequality, the economic slowdown, renewable energy, climate change, and the Bank's twin goals of ending extreme poverty by 2030 and boosting shared prosperity. They brought together government ministers, development experts, CEOs and celebrities.

Event: UN High-Level Water and Sanitation Days [viewed]

This series of coordinated events on water and sanitation includes the Second Special Thematic Session on Water and Disasters, the UN World Toilet Day and the final meeting of the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB). The Session on Water and Disasters will develop messages and recommendations for major UN conferences, including the Paris Climate Change Conference and Habitat III. World Toilet Day aims to inspire action and underscore the urgency of ending open defecation, especially for women and girls, and will focus on sanitation and nutrition. The New York event will focus on how improved sanitation supports better nutrition and improved health.

During its final meeting the UNSGAB will share its final report and recommendations on advancing water and sanitation objectives in the post-2015 era with the UN Secretary-General and the UN System Chief Executives Board for Coordination.
