3 December 2008: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in partnership with the UN/OCHA Integrated Resource Information Network (IRIN), has launched a film series titled “Gathering Storm - The humanitarian impact of climate change.”
15 December 2008: Speaking at a meeting of the UN General Assembly on the “follow-up to the outcome of the Millennium Summit: specific meeting focused on development,” taking place in New York, US, on 15 December 2008, UN Deputy Secretary-General Asha-Rose Migiro warned that the food, fuel and financial crises threaten to undo poverty reduction efforts.
15 December 2008: Speaking at the conference on “Water for Agriculture and Energy in Africa: The Challenges of Climate Change,” taking place in Sirte, Libya, from 15-17 December 2008, FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf stressed the importance of water management for food security. During the event, ministers from 53 African countries will consider a “Blue Revolution” programme designed to harness Africa's largely untapped water resources.
10 December 2008: The High-level Regional Policy Dialogue on “The Food-Fuel Crisis and Climate Change – Reshaping the Development Agenda,” jointly organized by the Government of Indonesia and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), convened from 9-10 December 2008, in Bali, Indonesia. The meeting recommended urgent, comprehensive and coordinated action to deal with the food, energy and financial crises, and climate change in the region.
December 2008: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), one of the 16 international research centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, has published a report entitled “The Impact of Climate Change and Adaptation on Food Production in Low-Income Countries: Evidence from the Nile Basin, Ethiopia.”
11 December 2008: On the occasion of International Mountain Day, celebrated on 11 December, Ahmed Djoghlaf, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), delivered a message on food security in the mountains.
9 December 2008: The High-level Regional Policy Dialogue on “The Food-Fuel Crisis and Climate Change – Reshaping the Development Agenda,” organized by the Government of Indonesia and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), is convening in Denpasar, Indonesia, from 9-10 December 2008. The dialogue aims to identify strategies to address the impact of the food, energy and financial crises on Asia and the Pacific in the context of climate change, and prevent the triple crises from becoming a development emergency.
6 December 2008: A new report released by the World Bank suggests that forecasting improvements in Europe and Central Asia can play a critical role in improving the economy and mitigating the impacts of disasters in the region. The report “Weather and Climate Services in Europe and Central Asia: A Regional Review” explains why improving weather monitoring systems can help mitigate damaging economic impacts of weather disasters, support increased productivity of agriculture, conserve energy, and promote safe aviation and transport by road and rail.
3 December 2008: At a side event held during the UN Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland, two least developed countries shared their experience in integrating climate change risks into various sectors, including agriculture and health through the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF).

2008: The Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) is
looking for an institution to host the secretariat of its recently approved
Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Challenge Programme (CCCP). The
CCCP is a collaborative endeavor between CGIAR and partners, and the Earth
System Science Partnership (ESSP). It is aimed at overcoming the additional
threats posed by a changing climate to achieving food security, enhancing
livelihoods and improving environmental management in the developing world.
