17 April 2009: The Dialogue on Climate Change Adaptation for Land and Water Management convened at UN Environment Programme (UNEP) headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16-17 April 2009. The event was co-hosted by UNEP and the Minister for Development Cooperation of Denmark, Ulla Tørnæs. The Dialogue addressed the need to: tackle existing problems in land and water management to build resilience to climate change; strengthen institutions for land and water management; and increase financing targeted towards the most vulnerable people.

April 2009: The Global Environmental Change and Human Security (GECHS) Project will hold its Synthesis Conference, “Human Security in an Era of Global Change,” from 22-24 June 2009, at the University of Oslo, Norway. The GECHS conference will synthesize the results of 10 years of research on the human security theme and gather researchers, policy makers and stakeholders from different fields to discuss interactions among various processes of change and their implications for human security.

8 April 2009: The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the UK's Department for International Development have published a study on the role of small-scale bioenergy production in local communities for rural development. The study, titled “Small-Scale Bioenergy Initiatives: Brief Description and Preliminary Lessons on Livelihood Impacts from Case Studies in Latin America, Asia and Africa,” reports on a series of 15 case studies of start-up bioenergy projects covering a range of bioenergy resources, such as residues from agriculture and forestry and liquid biofuels.
