PICs Present Outcomes of PACC Cost Benefit Analysis [viewed]

1 November 2012: Seven Pacific islands delivered the outcomes of their Cost Benefit Analyses (CBAs), during the conclusion workshop of the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project (PACC). The Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) began the series of trainings in November 2011, to support countries in conducting CBAs and thereby improve the selection and design of adaptation projects.

Event: International Workshop on Sustainable Pro-poor Development of Aviation Biofuels [viewed]

This event on Sustainable Pro-poor Development of Aviation Biofuels aims to promote discussion between global stakeholders to discuss development of the aviation biofuels industry to assure its sustainability and that it maintains a pro-poor focus. The target audience for this event is a diverse range of stakeholders, such as policy makers, governments, international and multilateral development organizations, private sector, academia, civil society and media. The event is organized by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Italy's Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, the Vicariate of Rome - Ufficio Pastorale Universitaria, Roma Tre University, with the support of Boeing.

UNFCCC Releases Report on National GHG Inventory Data for 1990-2010 [viewed]

UNFCCC16 November 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a report on national greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory data for the period 1990-2010 for all 42 Annex I Parties (FCCC/SBI/2012/31). It highlights that total aggregate GHG emissions excluding land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF) decreased by 8.9%, and including LULUCF decreased by 14.6%.

IPCC Working Group on Mitigation Gathers to Prepare Next Assessment Report [viewed]

IPCC9 November 2012: Experts from 56 countries met from 5-9 November 2012, in Vigo, Spain, to work on the Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) on Climate Change. The IPCC's Working Group III focus its work on mitigation aspects.

Global Compact, Accenture Release Reports on Business Opportunities for Sustainable Energy for All [viewed]

8 November 2012: The UN Global Compact and Accenture have released 19 sectoral reports within the theme of "Sustainable Energy for All: The Business Opportunity." The reports identify priority activities and challenges for businesses to support the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative.

NBI Launches State of the Nile Report [viewed]

15 October 2012: The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) published the “State of the Nile River Basin Report 2012,” which highlights the fragile aquatic ecosystems of the Basin. The report notes the importance of the Nile for migratory birds and describes issues related to agricultural water use, power generation, navigation and climate change impacts on the basin.

UNU-INWEH Outlines Policy Recommendations for Sustainable Mangrove Management [viewed]

15 November 2012: The UN University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) has published a policy brief titled “Securing the Future of Mangroves.” The brief is based on the World Atlas of Mangroves and describes both the current status of mangroves, including their economic value, as well as threats to mangrove ecosystems and considerations for good management practices.

World Bank Report Explores Impacts of a Warmer World [viewed]

World Bank18 November 2012: The World Bank has released a scientific report titled, “Turn Down the Heat: Why a 4°C Warmer World Must be Avoided.”  The report, prepared by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and Climate Analytics, examines the implications of a four degree Celsius increase in global mean temperatures by the end of the century.
