EU/AU Commissions Discuss Climate, Biodiversity and UNCSD [viewed]

1 June 2011: The fifth College-to-College meeting of the European Commission and the African Union (AU) Commission was held on 31 May-1 June 2011, in Brussels, Belgium, to develop shared policy agendas. During the meeting, participants discussed ways to enhance cooperation both on short-term challenges and on the long-term structural changes, such as green growth, climate change and biodiversity.

UNEP, IFAD Launch Resource Management Policy, Call for Support for Sustainable Agriculture [viewed]

UNESCO Releases April-June Edition of Voices Newsletter [viewed]

ICRAF Releases Paper on MRV of Agricultural NAMAs [viewed]

31 May 2011: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) has released a working paper titled "Agricultural Monitoring and Evaluation Systems: What can we learn for the MRV of agricultural NAMAs?" The paper describes an existing monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system for a large scale grass cultivation programme in China and explores attributes of the MRV system that are consistent with the principles for credible MRV in existing UNFCCC mechanisms.

GEF Council Approves Programme that Includes Great Green Wall Initiative [viewed]

26 May 2011: The 40th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council, together with the tenth meeting of the Council of the Least Developed Country Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF), has approved an integrated land-use programme to fund investments to address priorities set by 12 African countries in West Africa and the Sahel.

Event: Climate Change and Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture: State of Knowledge, Risks and Opportunities [viewed]

This seminar will include presentations covering: animal genetic resources; plant genetic resources; aquatic genetic resources; forest genetic resources; micro-organism genetic resources; and invertebrate genetic resources. Additional discussions will include setting the policy scene, and agriculture biodiversity and climate change. It is organized by the Commission for Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA) of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Event: First Africa Drylands Week [viewed]

The First Africa Drylands Week will be held back-to-back with the global observance event on 17 June to mark World Day to Combat Desertification. Over 100 scientists and representatives of government and international and civil society organizations will convene in Dakar, Senegal, from 10-17 June 2011, to develop an integrated approach to address the Region's challenges of desertification and biodiversity loss, and the new climate change threat. This meeting, which is being co-organized by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is working towards a global vision and partnership on the Sustainable Land and Climate Risk Management for the Sahara and Sahel Initiative.
