Event: International Banana Symposium [viewed]

Scientific experts, researchers, government agencies and private industries working on banana issues will gather for an international banana symposium co-organized by the Taiwan Banana Research Institute (TBRI), Council of Agriculture (COA) of Taiwan, Bioversity International and the Banana Asia Pacific Network (BAPNET). The symposium's theme will be “Banana health management, use diversification and adaptation to climate change.” Bioversity International is a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Abstracts should be submitted by 30 September 2012.

UNFCCC Publishes GEF's Report to the COP [viewed]

CCAFS, FAO Release Brief on Smallholder Farmers' Contribution to Climate Change Mitigation [viewed]

17 September 2012: Highlighting that smallholder farmers can contribute significantly to climate change mitigation but will need incentives to adapt their practices, the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Program (CCAFS) of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) has released a policy brief related to the role of smallholders in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

UNFCCC Publishes Spain's GHG Inventory Review Report [viewed]

17 September 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the centralized review of the 2011 annual submission of Spain (FCCC/ARR/2011/ESP), which states that total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions increased by 29.5% between between 1990 and 2009. Total GHG emissions have increased in Spain between 1990 and 2007, when the maximum value of emissions was attained, and decreased since 2007 due to the economic crisis.

Landlocked Developing Countries' Trade Ministers Adopt Almaty Declaration [viewed]

UN-OHRLLS14 September 2012: Ministers and officials responsible for trade of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) met in Almaty, Kazakhstan, at the Fourth Meeting of LLDCs' Trade Ministers, to define common positions on trade and development needs for LLDCs. The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Almaty Ministerial Declaration, which calls for international support to address the negative impacts of climate change on the availability of natural resources, in particular water and arable land.
