Hosted by the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), this meeting gathers energy ministers from across the Western Hemisphere to discuss energy security, promotion of alternative energy resources and cooperation in addressing the effects of global climate change, in the framework of the “Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas” process.
27 March 2010: The 122nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly took place from 27 March-1 April 2010, in Bangkok, Thailand, focusing on the theme of political reconciliation and governance.
22 March 2010: The Permanent Representative of Mexico to the UN has addressed a letter to the President of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) dated 8 March 2010, which contains theDeclaration of Support for the Yasuní-Itt Initiative. The Declaration was adopted at the first Latin American and Caribbean Unity Summit, held in the Mayan Riviera, Mexico, on 22-23 February 2010. The letter and annex will be circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 53 (d) (Sustainable development: protection of global climate for present and future generations).
March 2010: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Morocco hosted a global event on "Capacity is Development" from17-19 March 2010, in Marrakesh. The event brought together world and community leaders, including development practitioners, from the North and South to discuss policies, institutional reforms and investment decisions that have enabled capable States and societies to sustain human development.
1 April 2010: The UN Secretary-General's report on "Progress to date and remaining gaps in the implementation of the outcomes of the major summits in the area of sustainable development and analysis of the themes for the Conference" (A/CONF.216/PC/2) has been released in preparation for the 17-19 May 2010 Preparatory Committee for the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, which will meet in Rio de Janerio, Brazil, in 2012 (Rio+20).
1 April 2010: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Bureau for Weights and Measures organized a workshop on “Measurement Challenges for Global Observation Systems for Climate Change Monitoring — Traceability, Stability and Uncertainty” from 1-3 April 2010, at WMO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The event aimed to explore ways to deliver more accurate and reliable observations of the Earth's climate.
29 March 2010: The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) has announced that the UN, in cooperation with the Government of China, will launch the UN Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) for China 2011-2015, on 1 April 2010, in Beijing, China. A key overall focus area is that the Chinese Government and other stakeholders ensure environmental sustainability, address climate change, and promote a green, low carbon economy.
March 2010: Global Witness, a non-governmental organization (NGO) representing civil society on the UN-REDD Policy Board, has submitted an assessment of the World Bank's Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) Readiness-Preparation Proposals (R-PPs) and Joint Program Documents (JPDs) of the UN-REDD (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries) Programme. A key finding of the assessment is the need for further guidance on non-carbon monitoring from the FCPF, the UN-REDD Programme, and the international community.
31 March 2010: At the first Global Conference on Agriculture Research for Development (GCARD) held in Montpelier, France, from 29-31 March 2010, the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) introduced its proposed large-scale collective-action programmes through eight thematic areas, including one on climate change and agriculture.
