Global Partnership Initiative for Plant Breeding Capacity Building August 2008: The Global Partnership Initiative for Plant Breeding Capacity Building (GIPB), a platform and partnership of public, private and civil society institutions hosted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in collaboration with the FAO Inter-Departmental Working Group on Bioenergy, has called for expanded, up-to-date information on genetic resources and breeding of selected underutilized species, together with detailed analysis of their potential as bioenergy crops adaptable to sustainable smallholder production systems.

August 2008: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released a new-look

newsletter, which, in addition to sections on mitigation, adaptation, finance

Two degrees of separation between hope and despair. A young people's summary of the United Nations Human Development Report 2007/2008 11 August 2008: The UN Development Programme's (UNDP) Human

Development Report Office introduced the youth version of the 2007-2008 Human

Development Report on 11 August 2008. The youth version, entitled “Two degrees

of separation between hope and despair,” was prepared by young people between

the ages of 16 and 25, and offers an explanation of the climate change problem,

followed by mitigation and adaptation policies, and a call to action by young

people.
