Icao1 October 2013: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) released its 2013 Environment Report on developments related to aviation and the environment during the period between 2011 to 2013. The 2013 Environment Report consolidates information on the work of ICAO and its member States involved in aviation and the environment, with a focus on climate change issues.

UNFCCC Publishes Documents on Technology and Response Measures [viewed]

UNFCCC26 September 2013: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published two documents on technology transfer and on response measures, for consideration by the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA) and the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) at their 39th sessions in Warsaw, Poland, in November 2013.

ICAO Assembly to Develop a Global Market-based Measure for International Aviation [viewed]

Icao4 October 2013: The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) concluded the 38th session of its Assembly, which considered global solutions to address emissions from international aviation. The Assembly made progress on all five of its 2014-2016 strategic objectives, including reaching agreement to develop a global market-based measure (MBM) for international aviation.

Event: Third Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-III) [viewed]

The Third Annual Conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-III) will convene under the theme of: Africa on the rise: can the opportunities from climate change spring the continent to transformative development? The Conference will address a number of sub-themes that aim to share experiences, disseminate research results and assess how Africa is coping with the impacts of climate change. These include: the value of climate services (science, data and information) in Africa's development; the way climate policies build effective resilience to the impacts of climate change in Africa; the unexplored options of climate finance; green economy; and the global climate change framework and Africa. The Conference, organized by the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC), convenes each year under the auspices of the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) Programme. ClimDev-Africa is a consortium of key African development institutions, including the UN Economic Commission (UNECA), the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

ECLAC Launches Database on Climate Change Adaptation in Coastal Zones [viewed]

ECLAC2 October 2013: The UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) launched an interactive, web-based database aimed at helping Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries in planning coastal management and preventive measures to adapt to the effects of climate change on their coastal zones.

GEF, UNDP Support Early Warning Systems for Climate Resilience in Africa [viewed]

GEF UNDP2 October 2013: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has reported that the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved a US$43.63m grant for a UNDP-led initiative to strengthen climate information and early warning systems in ten African countries.

Event: IPCC 40 [viewed]

The 40th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC 40) will be held to adopt the Fifth Assessment Review (AR5) Synthesis Report and approve its Summary for Policy Makers. Subsequently, in December 2014, a copy of the Synthesis Report will be presented to the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC.

Event: International Conference on Climate Change, Water Resources and Disasters in Mountainous Regions: Building Resilience to Changing Climate [viewed]

This Conference will provide scientists, engineers, planners and development workers with a platform to present their research outcomes, observations, findings and innovative ideas. Conference themes include: climate variability and changes; water resources management; transboundary issues of water resources; cryospheric changes and its impacts on water resources; land degradation, hazards and disaster risk reduction (DRR); river basin modeling for impact assessment; watershed management and ecosystem services; renewable energy and food security; climate services for building resilience; and adaptation strategies for building a resilient society. The conference is jointly organized by the Society of Hydrologists and Meteorologists Nepal (SOHAM-Nepal), the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) of the Government of Nepal, and the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Hydrological Programme Nepal (IHP) National Committee.
