Event: Fifth Africa Carbon Forum [viewed]

The Africa Carbon Forum is a trade fair and knowledge sharing platform for carbon investments in Africa, and will consider ways to promote access to low-carbon development in Africa. Participants will discuss the latest development in the carbon market and how the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and other mitigation mechanisms can be successful in Africa. The Forum aims to connect project developers and buyers of carbon credits through facilitation sessions. The Forum is co-organized by the Secretariat of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA), the World Bank and the African Development Bank (AfDB). The event is also supported by the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and the Government of Côte d'Ivoire.

Dublin Conference Stresses Local Solutions to Address Food Security and Climate Challenges [viewed]

16 April 2013: At a two-day conference in Dublin, Ireland, global leaders discussed critical challenges related to addressing hunger, nutrition and climate justice. Study Assesses Impact of Short-Lived Climate Pollutants on Sea-Level Rise [viewed]

UNEP17 April 2013: A study published by Nature Climate Change concludes that sea-level rise can be cut by reducing local air pollution from four short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), namely black carbon, methane, tropospheric ozone and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs).

IEA Report: Electric Vehicle Sales Doubled from 2011 to 2012 [viewed]

IEA17 April 2013: The International Energy Agency (IEA), together with the Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) Electric Vehicle Initiative (EVI), has released a report targeted to governments and industry on the challenges and opportunities facing electric vehicle (EV) deployment. Based on two years of primary data collection by the EVI and IEA, “Global EV Outlook: Understanding the Electric Vehicle Landscape to 2020” finds that, although EVs make up only 0.02 percent of the total passenger car stock, global EV sales more than doubled from 45,000 in 2011 to 113,000 in 2012.

Fourth Clean Energy Ministerial Launches Actions on Energy Access, Efficiency, and Supply [viewed]

18 April 2013: Leaders from the Clean Energy Ministerial's (CEM) 23 participant countries have announced new actions and reaffirmed existing commitments to accelerate clean energy deployment, improve energy efficiency, and increase access to clean energy around the world. The energy ministers and other high-level delegates who gathered for the Ministerial's fourth meeting (CEM4) also outlined progress on CEM's 13 current initiatives and welcomed further work on clean energy finance to be delivered to CEM5 in the Republic of Korea in 2014.
