The first meeting of the Group of Experts of the Global Energy Efficiency 21 Project (GEE21), created at COP 14 in Poznań, Poland, by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) to facilitate cooperation and exchange between regional UN commissions on energy efficiency for climate change mitigation, will: discuss recent developments in the GEE21 Project, especially the newly published document “Financing Global Climate Change Mitigation: Sources of Financing Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Investments;” hear presentations on sustainable energy programmes and projects; and discuss the 2010-11 programme of work.

An initiative of Bolivian President Evo Morales, the Conference provided a forum to discuss the structural and systemic causes of climate change and propose substantive measures that facilitate the well-being of mankind in harmony with nature.

Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol Launched [viewed]

22 April 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has announced the creation of the Copenhagen Sustainable Meetings Protocol (CSMP) by a coalition of seven organizations. The CSMP was inspired by the 15th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP 15), which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark, in December 2009, and aims to increase the sustainability of future COPs and other large international meetings.

Mother Earth is Under Pressure - UN Secretary-General [viewed]

22 April 2010:  In a message to mark International Mother Earth Day, celebrated on 22 April, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon stated that "Mother Earth – our only home – is under pressure."  Noting that we have "drawn on nature's capital without putting back," he underlined that we are now seeing the consequences, as showcased by climate change and the depleted ozone layer.
