World Meteorological Congress Sets Priorities for Next Four Years [viewed]

AfDB Invests in Solar and Wind Power in Sub-Saharan Africa [viewed]

6 June 2011: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published several revised documents, which will be considered during the 34th session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 34), including a revised provisional agenda (FCCC/SBI/2011/1/Rev.1) for SBI 34, a revised progress report (FCCC/SBI 2011/5Rev.1) on the work of the Consultative Group of Experts (CGE) on national communications from parties not included in Annex I to the Convention, and a revised document (FCCC/SBI/2011/INF.6/ Rev.1) on the status of submission and review of fifth national communications.

Event: High-Level Africa Consultative Forum on Renewable Energy [viewed]

This high-level consultative forum will provide an opportunity for Ministers of Energy from Africa to engage with experts from Regional Economic Commissions, national entities, international partners, the UAE Government, the African Development Bank (AfDB), the African Union (AU)-UN Regional Consultative Mechanism, the EU-Africa Energy partnership, key energy NGOs and others. IRENA is convening the meeting to discuss specific implementation challenges facing Africa with respect to renewable energy technologies, as well as practical approaches to generate the critical policy and technical information, advice and capacity that is required to support the extensive deployment of renewable energy in Africa.

IEA Report Explores the Potential for a “Golden Age” of Gas [viewed]

CDM Executive Board Launches Calls for Public Inputs [viewed]

3 June: At its 61st meeting, held from 30 May - 3 June 2011 in Bonn, Germany, the Executive Board of the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) decided to launch four calls for public input on: identification of common issues in the implementation of registered afforestation/reforestation (A/R) CDM project activities; key issues identified in relation to the development of a solar cooker methodology; draft small-scale methodology for water saving devices; and how to include co-benefits in the documentation of CDM project activities, and the role of the different actors and stakeholders in this process.

In Bonn, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Underscores Growing Momentum of Global Climate Action [viewed]

6 June 2011: The UN Climate Change Conference in Bonn opened on 6 June 2011, and is scheduled to conclude on 17 June 2011. The conference will include the 34th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA). It also comprises the second part of the 16th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP) and the second part of the 14th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA).
