EIB Supports Waste-to-Energy Project in Finland [viewed]

UNECE Publishes MDGs Report for Europe and Central Asia [viewed]

August 2010: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published a report titled "The MDGs in Europe and Central Asia: Achievements, Challenges and the Way Forward." The chapter on MDG 7 (environmental sustainability) was jointly prepared by UNECE and the Regional Office for Europe of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and contains several references to climate change.

Event: Third Meeting of the Dynamic Coalition on Internet and Climate Change [viewed]

The Dynamic Coalition on Internet and Climate Change (DCICC) was launched by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to: help moderate the environmental impact of the Internet; seek new ways to use the power of the Internet to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions worldwide; and enable transformation in line with the objectives of the UNFCCC. Its third meeting will be held in conjunction with the fifth meeting of the Internet Governance Forum in September 2010.

Event: Fifth ITU Symposium on ICTs and the Environment and Climate Change [viewed]

The International Telecommunication Union's (ITU) fifth Symposium on Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and the Environment and Climate Change will be hosted and co-organized by Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs. It will focus on the issue of ICTs, the environment and climate change in Africa, as well as the needs of developing countries. Topics to be discussed include adaptation to climate change, e-waste, cost-effective ICT technologies, methodology of environmental impact assessment of ICT and financing of climate change solutions. The main purpose is to raise awareness of the importance and opportunities of using ICTs to monitor climate change, and to mitigate and address its effects. The symposium will issue the “Cairo Road Map,” a set of recommendations for action in relation to ICTs, the Environment and Climate Change.
