Event: World Weather Open Science Conference 2014 [viewed]

The World Weather Open Science Conference (WWOSC2014): The Weather: What's the Outlook, which is convening for the first time ever, will bring together the weather science and user communities under the overarching theme ‘Seamless Prediction of the Earth System: from minutes to months'. WWOSC2014 will examine the “frontiers of knowledge,” and outline new scientific goals and challenges. The Conference will feature special sessions on high-impact weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts, cold snaps and floods. The Conference's two streams – the Science Program and the User, Application and Social Science Program – will meet in joint plenary and special sessions. The Science Program will cover basic weather research, as well research needed to establish prediction systems and assess the impacts of weather and climate events. The User Program will consider challenges and opportunities associated with communicating and employing weather information, science and services that reap social and economic benefits. The Conference is being co-organized by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Council for Science, Environment Canada, and the National Research Council, Canada.

Event: Abu Dhabi Ascent [viewed]

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the Abu Dhabi Ascent, a high-level meeting to generate momentum for the 23 September Climate Summit being convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. The two-day meeting will bring together ministers, as well as leaders from business, finance and civil society, to develop proposals for action and determine how their countries, businesses and organizations can increase their participation in initiatives that broaden and deepen partnerships, in order to deliver concrete action at the September Summit.

2013 Among the Warmest on Record: WMO Reports [viewed]

WMO5 February 2014: According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), 2013 was among the top ten warmest years since recordings began in 1850. Tied with 2007 as the sixth warmest year, 2013's global land and ocean surface temperature was .50°C above the 1961-1990 average and .03°C above the 2001-2010 decadal average.

UNFCCC Releases COP 19 and CMP 9 Reports [viewed]

UNFCCC31 January 2014: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the reports of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) and the 9th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 9). The reports contain the COP 19 and CMP 9 decisions taken at the Warsaw Conference and the proceedings from the sessions of COP 19 and CMP 9.

African Water Facility Supports Infrastructure Programme in Niger Basin [viewed]

Event: South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference 2015 (SAIREC) [viewed]

The Government of South Africa together with the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century (REN21) are hosting the South Africa International Renewable Energy Conference (SAIREC), to gather ministers, decision-makers, civil society, academia and the private sector to discuss experiences and strategies for accelerating the global deployment of renewable energy. The event is aimed particularly at giving the African renewable energy industry opportunities to showcase its work and gain insights from other participants. This event will build upon previous "IREC" conferences held in Abu Dhabi (2013), Delhi (2010), Washington D.C (2008), Beijing (2005) and Bonn (2004).
