IPCC Approves AR5 Synthesis Report [viewed]

ipcc401 November 2014: The 40th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-40) met to consider and finalize the Synthesis Report (SYR), which integrates the findings from the three IPCC Working Group (WG) reports. Together, these comprise the IPCC's Fifth Assessment Report (AR5). On 1 November, the Panel approved the SYR's Summary for Policymakers (SPM) line by line, and adopted the longer SYR section by section.

New EU Car Fleet Emissions Performance in Line with Targets [viewed]

EEA30 October 2014: According to a report by the European Environment Agency (EEA), efficiency of passenger cars and vans in the EU has improved over the past years, and the number of electric cars, albeit still low, is increasing rapidly. The report, which presents data on carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from these vehicles, finds that, on average, both passenger cars and vans sold in 2013 were already below the maximum permitted emissions per kilometer threshold set by the European Commission for 2015.

Event: Resilient Cities 2015: 6th Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation [viewed]

This forum will bring together experts and practitioners in urban adaptation and resilience. Presentations, panels, workshops and trainings will address: urban risk and vulnerability and disaster risk management; resilience data and indicators; adaptation planning, policy and integrated approaches; communicating resilience and applying ICT solutions; ecosystem-based adaptation and resource security; creating resilient public health systems; community-based, bottom-up approaches; resilient building, design and infrastructure; capacity building, governance and collaboration; and financing resilience planning and development. ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, the World Mayors Council on Climate Change and the City of Bonn are hosting the event.

Event: AFRICEF-3 Financing Forum [viewed]

The third cycle of the Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing (AFRICEF-3), organized by the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), and aimed at investors, will showcase ten promising clean energy investment opportunities in Africa, selected through a CTI PFAN business plan competition. Projects featured cover hydroelectric, biogas, biomass, biofuel and solar energy, waste-to-energy and energy efficiency, and are to be implemented in Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda. The CTI PFAN Africa Climate Change Investor Forum, focusing on climate change adaptation projects, will take place on 12 November at the same venue.

Event: Africa Climate Change Investor Forum [viewed]

The Africa Climate Change Investor Forum, organized by the Climate Technology Initiative Private Financing Advisory Network (CTI PFAN), and targeted primarily at investors and financiers, will provide opportunities for networking and accessing investment-ready climate change adaptation projects, and learning about the market for climate change investment and financing in Africa. The Forum, which will take place on 12 November, will comprise interactive investor panels, a business plan competition and a display of ten promising climate change investment opportunities in Africa selected by CTI PFAN. The forum will feature projects raising financing for climate change technology deployment from various sectors and from countries across Africa. The 3rd cycle of CTI PFAN's Africa Forum for Clean Energy Financing (AFRICEF-3) will take place on 13 November at the same venue.

African Countries Adopt Sustainable Transport Framework [viewed]

The roadmap aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through the use of low-emission non-motorized transport, and increasing the quality of public transport and investment in clean technologies.

BNEF Assesses Clean Energy Activities in Emerging Economies [viewed]

DFID MIF USAID Bloomberg New Energy Finance28 October 2014: A study by Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) assessing clean energy activities and investments in emerging markets has found that capacity additions in these markets, over the past five years, totalled 142 GW, representing faster growth than in developed countries, and equal to more than France's existing clean energy capacity.

TEC, CTCN Release Report to COP 20 [viewed]

UNFCCC27 October 2014: In preparation for the 20th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 20) to the UNFCCC, the Secretariat has released an advance version of a joint report detailing the activities and functions of the Technology Executive Committee (TEC) and the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). In the bodies' joint key messages for the COP, they report that the Technology Mechanism is "fully operational and fulfilling its mandate" and emphasize the need for stable financial support for effective operation.

3gf22 October 2014: The Fourth Global Green Growth Forum (3GF2014) explored key related questions and launched or leveraged 11 collaborative partnerships. The Forum, which brought together over 500 leaders and decision makers from governments, cities, businesses, finance and civil society, explored actions needed for promoting sustainable production and consumption for a greener economy under the theme ‘Changing Production and Consumption Patterns through Transformative Action.'
