UNFCCC Secretariat Posts Party Submissions [viewed]

© UNFCCC28 April 2009: The UNFCC Secretariat has received a number of submissions from parties, dating from 7 April, on negotiating text for consideration at the sixth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the UNFCCC (AWG-LCA 6), which will convene from 1-12 June 2009, in Bonn, Germany, in conjunction with the 30th session of the UNFCCC subsidiary bodies and the eighth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 8).

UN Secretary-General Stresses Importance of Climate Issues in Finding Aral Sea Solutions [viewed]

© UN28 April 2009: In a message delivered by Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed the summit of member States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, which took place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 28 April 2009. Noting that the Aral Sea has shrunk by 70% in recent decades, he stated that climate variability poses a further challenge in this region where water resources are particularly vulnerable.

UN Participates in Preparatory Meeting of Major Economies Forum [viewed]

28 April 2009: The US Government hosted the first preparatory meeting of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate from 27-28 April 2009, in Washington, DC, US. The event was attended by Leaders' representatives and other officials from 17 major economies, as well as the UN and Denmark, as host of the December 2009 Copenhagen Climate Change Conference.

UNFCCC Executive Secretary Addresses Informal Ministerial Meeting [viewed]

26 April 2009: Yvo de Boer, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC, addressed an informal gathering of Ministers of Finance and Development in Washington, DC, US. On the climate change talks in Copenhagen, he said that “policy clarity will provide the necessary impetus for up-coming investments to be directed into environmentally sound technologies, rather than infrastructure that will soon be obsolete.”

UNFCCC Secretariat Releases Poland's GHG Inventory [viewed]

© UNFCCC28 April 2009: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released the report of the individual review of the greenhouse gas inventory submissions of Poland submitted in 2007 and 2008 (FCCC/ARR/2008/POL). The expert review team (ERT) finds the inventory to be generally in line with the Revised 1996 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Guidelines, the IPCC good practice guidance and the IPCC good practice guidance for land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF).
