8 September 2009: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will convene a Summit on Climate Change on 22 September 2009, to focus the attention of Heads of State and Government on the need for urgent action and to mobilize the political will needed to reach a fair, effective and scientifically ambitious global climate agreement at the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen in December.
8 September 2009: In an op-ed published by The Guardian, UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Helen Clark emphasized that the UN climate change talks must not only seek to protect the planet, but should fight poverty as well.

7 September 2009: UNFCCC Executive Secretary Yvo de Boer addressed the Asahi World Environment Forum, held from 7-8 September 2009, in Tokyo, Japan, where he lauded the newly elected Democratic Party's intention to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 25% below 1990 levels by 2020.
September 2009: The project design document (PDD) for the joint implementation (JI) project “Reconstruction of the OJSC ‘Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works' blast furnaces #5 and #6, Russian Federation” has been submitted to the UNFCCC Secretariat by an accredited independent entity.
September 2009: The World Maritime Day 2009 will be celebrated at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization in London, UK, on 24 September 2009, under the theme “Climate change: a challenge for IMO too!” To mark the occasion, IMO Secretary-General Efthimios Mitropoulos has prepared a special message on the issue, supported by a background paper.
8 September 2009: In order to help disseminate its climate-related work since the adoption of the Strategic Framework on Development and Climate Change in 2008, the World Bank has issued a booklet titled “Development and Climate Change: The World Bank Group at Work,” which is now translated into Spanish and French and posted on the Bank's website.
8 September 2009: The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) published a policy brief summarizing OECD analyses showing that the cost of action to mitigate climate change would be minimized if a cost-effective set of policy instruments, with a focus on carbon pricing, were applied as broadly as possible across all emission sources, including all countries, sectors, and greenhouse gases.
2 September 2009: The Asian Development Bank (ADB) presented, during the South Asia Regional Climate Change Conference on “A Vision for Addressing Climate Change Risks and Vulnerabilities in the Himalayas,” the preliminary findings of a study that highlights how melting Himalayan glaciers and other climate change impacts pose a direct threat to the water and food security of more than 1.6 billion people in South Asia.
