11 October 2009: The World Forum on Sustainable Development, which convened from 9-11 October 2009, in Ouagadougou, under the theme “Climate Change: What Opportunities for Sustainable Development?” was organized by the Government of Burkina Faso in partnership with the UN, including the UN Development Programme (UNDP), and the African Union (AU).
9 October 2009: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) and the Ministry of Forestry of Indonesia have launched a partnership designed to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD) and to enhance forest carbon stocks through enhanced community participation in conservation and management of the Meru Betiri National Park (MBNP), in the southeastern part of the East Java province.
8 October 2009: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands has announced that the theme for 2010 World Wetlands Day (WWD), celebrated on 2 February, will be “Caring for wetlands – an answer to climate change.”
6 October 2009: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) will fund a feasibility study in Chile to explore sustainable biodiesel derived from forest industry byproducts and wood waste, which do not compete with food production.
9 October 2009: The first part of the seventh session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (AWG-LCA 7) and the first part of the ninth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 9) took place from 28 September-9 October 2009, in Bangkok, Thailand.
9 October 2009: Member States of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which represent 93 percent of commercial air traffic globally, have approved a Declaration affirming their commitment to work through ICAO to reduce industry emissions contributing to climate change.
9 October 2009: From 7-9 October 2009, the Global Renewable Energy Forum 2009, co-organized by the Ministry of Energy of Mexico and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), brought together over 2000 participants from over 73 countries, including 30 ministers and high-level representatives, to discuss “Scaling up Renewable Energy.”

9 October 2009: On World Post Day, celebrated annually on 9 October, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has called attention to its initiative to measure the postal industry's carbon footprint, with the objective of proposing industry-wide measures to reduce it.
