The Turkish Presidency of the Group of 20 (G20) will host G20 leaders in Antalya, Turkey, for the G20 Leaders' Summit in November 2015. The G20 aims to conclude the Summit with practical outcomes on such priority areas as development, climate change, financing for climate change, trade, growth and employment.

Event: Workshop on Harnessing Climate Change Financing for Sustainable Forest Management in Southeast Asia [viewed]

Convened under the UN Forum on Forests Facilitative Process to support financing for sustainable forest management (SFM), the 'Workshop on Harnessing Climate Change Financing for Sustainable Forest Management in Southeast Asia' will consider links and opportunities for harmonization between SFM financing and REDD+. The workshop will be co-convened with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

Event: South Takes Action: 2015 Climate South Initiative: Challenges and Solutions [viewed]

This conference will facilitate South-led initiatives on climate change, connecting government, business, civil society and social enterprise leaders from the global South for "a different kind of debate on climate - a debate led by the South, for the benefit of the whole world". The Climate South Initiatives hopes to give voice to those not typically heard at climate change conferences, to engage youth in the process, and to encourage collaboration on solutions, rather than negotiation. Developing and emerging economies will share their knowledge and expertise, focusing on areas for South-South cooperation. The expected outcome is a declaration outlining the joint measures that will support climate change leadership in the global South; the document will also give input to the climate change negotiations planned for November/December 2015 in Paris, France.

Event: G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting [viewed]

The first meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors under the Turkish Presidency will be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, on 9-10 February 2015. The finance ministers are expected to convene four times throughout the year. Turkey has chosen to focus on 'inclusive and robust growth through collective action' under its leadership in 2015. The three pillars that will guide the G20's work this year are: strengthening the global recovery and lifting the potential; enhancing resilience; and buttressing sustainability.

Event: Ninth Meeting of the Green Climate Fund Board [viewed]

The Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) will convene its ninth meeting to continue its work operationalizing the Fund. In addition, the Board committee meetings and panels will take place on 23 March 2015.

Event: G20 Development Working Group Meeting [viewed]

The Group of 20 (G20) Development Working Group (DWG) will hold its first meeting in 2015 in support of the Turkish Presidency's priority of "buttressing sustainability". The Turkish Presidency of the G20 is placing development at the center of its 2015 agenda for the G20. The DWG was established in 2010 under the Korean Presidency of the G20 and is responsible for implementing the G20 Development Agenda and reporting progress to the Sherpas. Under its pillar of buttressing sustainability, the Turkish Presidency is also focusing on climate change finance and energy.

Negotiations Consider Four Elements of Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

Post-2015 Development Agenda21 January 2015: At the first sessions of intergovernmental negotiations on the post-2015 development agenda, UN Member States and other participants addressed the four elements expected to comprise the new agenda: a declaration; a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets, along with eventual indicators; their means of implementation (MOI) and a new Global Partnership for Development; and follow-up and review of implementation. The “stocktaking session” was the first of eight scheduled sessions to prepare the outcome that will be adopted at the UN Summit on the Post-2015 Development Agenda in September 2015.

World Economic Forum Addresses Climate Change, Gender, Inequality, Development Goals [viewed]

World Economic Forum24 January 2015: The 45th World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting discussed the global economic outlook for 2015 and considered climate change, inequality, gender parity and the development goals, and sustainable development investments, among other issues. The Forum launched several publications and initiatives, including a Global Challenge Initiative on Food Security and Agriculture.

US, India to Enhance Cooperation on Climate, Clean Energy [viewed]

india.us25 January 2015: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama have announced joint measures to boost clean energy in India and international climate action. The two sides announced their plan to cooperate together and with other countries over the next year to conclude an “ambitious” climate agreement at the Paris Climate Change Conference, scheduled to take place in December 2015.

Hong Kong's Religious Leaders Urge Consensus on Climate Change [viewed]

23 January 2015: The six main religions of Hong Kong have released a joint, interfaith statement sounding the alarm on climate change. The statement emphasizes the impact climate change is having on weather, and consequently on famine, diseases and storms. The religious leaders express concern that the poor and vulnerable are and will be most impacted by the "potentially catastrophic consequences" of unabated carbon emissions.
