European Commission Assesses Feasibility of Scaling-up Climate Finance [viewed]

8 April 2011: The European Commission has released a staff working document on "Scaling up international climate finance after 2012," confirming that raising US$100 billion per year by 2020 is "challenging but feasible" with the right mix of public funding, funding from international carbon markets, as well as private funds, partly leveraged by development banks.

7 April 2011: A Roundtable on Climate Finance and Energy Access was held on 7 April 2011, during the 2011 Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit, which was held from 4-7 April 2011, in New York, US. The Roundtable, hosted by Bloomberg New Finance in association with the UN Foundation and UN-Energy, championed the UN's efforts to raise awareness about the importance of extending modern energy services to the billions who still lack them.

First IRENA Assembly Designates Permanent Seat, Elects Council Members [viewed]

6 April 2011: The fifth session of the Preparatory Commission for the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the first session of the Assembly of IRENA were held from 3-5 April 2011, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Assembly was the inaugural meeting IRENA's governing body, and was attended by 950 participants, including one Head of State, over 50 ministers, 30 ministerial-level officials, 670 country delegates, 130 observers and officials, and 70 accredited media.
