Event: 12th IEA-IETA-EPRI Annual Workshop on Greenhouse Gas Emission Trading [viewed]

This two-day annual workshop hosted by the International Energy Agency (IEA), in collaboration with Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and the International Emission Trading Association (IETA), will bring together more than 130 senior officials from OECD countries, non-OECD countries corporate executives from electric companies, energy-intensive industries, brokerage companies and the financial community, analysts and researchers from non-governmental organizations and academia. Participants will discuss the evolution of GHG emissions trading programmes around the world. Topics to be addressed include: new and evolving global carbon markets; carbon market updates; the role of the carbon markets in future international efforts to finance climate mitigation; and the role of GHG emissions trading in current and emerging international trade disputes.

Pacific Agricultural and Forestry Ministers Endorse Regional REDD+ Framework [viewed]

SPC1 October 2012: The Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC) announced that the Third Regional Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry, which convened on 28 September 2012, in Nadi, Fiji, endorsed the Pacific Islands Regional Policy Framework for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation and forest conservation, sustainable management of forests, and enhancement of forest carbon stocks (REDD+).

3 October 2012: The second UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) workshop on long-term finance focused on approaches to scale-up climate finance and create enabling environments. Parties, private sector and civil society stakeholders held in-depth discussions on new and innovative sources of climate finance, various approaches and strategies to mobilize climate finance, and ways to strengthen developing countries' capacity for improved access to climate finance.

CBD COP 11 Opens with Focus on Strategic Plan Implementation, Climate and Marine Issues [viewed]

8 October 2012: The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) opened on 8 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, directly following the sixth Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. The two-week meeting will address a series of cross-cutting and ecosystem-related issues, as well as financial, administrative and implementation-related topics.

First NAMA Submissions Received [viewed]

1 October 2012: The UNFCCC Secretariat has announced that it has received the first submissions of nationally appropriate mitigation actions (NAMAs) for the future NAMA Registry. The submissions, from Mali and Ethiopia, have been compiled in a temporary website.
