Event: UNFCCC Expert Meeting on Assessing the Risk of Loss and Damage Associated with the Adverse Effects of Climate Change [viewed]

The UNFCCC Secretariat is organizing this expert meeting to address issues related to assessing the risk of loss and damage associated with the adverse effects of climate change. The meeting will consider inputs from relevant stakeholders and draw on expertise within and outside the Convention, with the aim of building a knowledge base for the discussion of a range of approaches to address loss and damage.

Event: Eighth African Development Forum [viewed]

The eighth African Development Forum (ADF) is being held under the theme "Governing and Harnessing Natural Resources for Africa's Development". The ADF will provide a forum for the presentation of the latest research results, opinions and developments within the following six areas: knowledge base, human and institutional capacities; policy, legal and regulatory issues; economic issues; governance, human rights and social issues; participation and ownership of natural resources; and environmental, material stewardship and climate change. The ADF is an biennial event of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA). It was created in 1999 and is a multi-stakeholder platform for debating, discussing and initiating concrete strategies for Africa's development. It is convened in collaboration with the African Union Commission (AUC), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and other partners.

Event: Additional Sessions of the UNFCCC Ad Hoc Working Groups [viewed]

This meeting will include sessions of: the Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA); the Ad hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP); and the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP). Due to space limitations, it will not be possible to hold side events and exhibits on this occasion. These sessions will be preceded by preparatory meetings of the Group of 77 and China, the African States, the small island developing States (SIDS), and the least developed countries (LDCs), from 24-29 August 2012.

Event: 35th Meeting of the CDM Afforestation and Reforestation Working Group [viewed]

The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Afforestation and Reforestation (A/R) Working Group holds regular meetings to consider matters relating to CDM A/R project activities, including preparing recommendations on submitted proposals for new baseline and monitoring methodologies for A/R CDM project activities.

UNFCCC Newsletter Reports on Durban Outcomes [viewed]

12 March 2012: The March edition of the UNFCCC Newsletter focuses on the outcomes of the Durban Climate Change Conference. It includes a video message from Christina Figueres, UNFCCC Executive Secretary, who qualifies the Conference as "a turning point in the history" of the Convention, noting the existence of a "momentum for change" towards a sustainable, climate-resilient future.

EU Council Adopts Conclusions on Rio+20 and Durban Climate Conference [viewed]

9 March 2012: The first Environment Council under the Danish Presidency concluded with the adoption of conclusions on follow-up to the Durban Climate Change Conference, and on the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20). Other items debated included "A Roadmap to a low-carbon economy in 2050" and the Programme for the Environment and Climate Action (LIFE).

IDB and Alberta Undertake Joint Sustainable Energy Initiatives in Latin America [viewed]

IDB7 March 2012: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Government of Alberta, Canada, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish initiatives and programs supporting sustainable energy in Latin America and the Caribbean in an effort to harness the benefits of international cooperation to mitigate the effects of climate change.

FAO Paper Describes Forest Management Contributions to Adaptation and Mitigation [viewed]
