Event: Third Workshop on Enhancing the Regional Distribution of CDM Projects in Asia and the Pacific [viewed]

This workshop is being organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) Risoe Centre. The aim of the workshop is to provide a platform for participants to share best practices and key lessons, enhance their knowledge on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and discuss technical, financial, and policy issues specific to their projects. In addition, the ADB, with support from UNFCCC Secretariat, will offer one-on-one project consultations with interested project developers from 17-18 July. The ultimate objective is to promote and support CDM project activities in Asia and the Pacific countries currently hosting fewer than 10 registered projects, particularly least developed countries (LDCs) and small island developing States (SIDS).

UNDP Releases Review of Durban Outcomes and Challenges Ahead [viewed]

UNDP28 April 2012: The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has released a report titled “Taking Stock of Durban: Review of Key Outcomes and the Road Ahead,” which reviews: the UNFCCC history; the outcomes of the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 17) to the UNFCCC, held in Durban, South Africa, at the end of 2011; and the opportunities and challenges that the climate change negotiations will face in the coming years.

UNECE Workshop Focuses on Climate Change Impacts on Transboundary Basins [viewed]

UNECE26 April 2012: The Third Workshop on Water and Climate Change in Transboundary Basins, which addressed the theme "Making Adaptation Work," called attention to the expected impacts on climate change, including the higher risk of drought and floods, on shared transboundary basins. The event brought together over 140 participants to discuss conflict prevention and cooperation to address climate change adaptation at the transboundary level.

Event: UNITAR/UNEP e-Learning Course: Introduction to a Green Economy - Concepts, Principles and Applications [viewed]

The UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) have developed this e-learning course to provide interested stakeholders with an introduction to the green economy concept. The course will be conducted from 14 May-22 June 2012, and is organized as an interactive, web-based course. Participants will learn about the green economy and the challenges and opportunities to advance low-carbon, resource-efficient and socially-inclusive development.

New Clean Energy Initiatives and Commitments Announced at CEM3 [viewed]

26 April 2012: Leaders from the governments of the 23 Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) participant countries, together with the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) initiative, have announced a variety of new commitments and initiatives to improve energy efficiency, increase the share of renewable energy, and enable energy access worldwide. These commitments and initiatives are the main outcomes of the two-day Third Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM3).

SPC Consults on Draft Pacific Policy Framework for REDD+ [viewed]

IEA Report to CEM says Clean Energy Progress not Ambitious Enough to Remain within 2 Degree Scenario [viewed]
