World Bank, CIF Fund Climate Resilient Urban Improvements in the Caribbean [viewed]

World Bank23 June 2011: The World Bank Board of Directors has approved two projects in the Caribbean, amounting to US$47.12 million, to improve the safety of their buildings from the impacts of climate change and increase their public institutions' capacity to assess natural risks. The funding is from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) Pilot Program for Climate Resilience (PPCR), which is geared toward vulnerable countries and small island developing States (SIDS).

Event: CBD Africa Regional Consultation and Capacity Building Workshop on REDD+, Including on Relevant Biodiversity Safeguards [viewed]

This workshop is being convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the South African National Biodiversity Institute and with financial support from Norway, the UK and the UN-REDD Programme. Its purpose is to consult effectively with parties on the development of advice on relevant safeguards for biodiversity, so that REDD+ (reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries, as well as conservation, sustainable management of forests and enhancement of carbon stocks) actions are consistent with the CBD objectives, and avoid negative impacts on, and enhance benefits for biodiversity.
