IRENA Report Examines Renewable Energy's Role in Curbing Climate Change [viewed]

IRENA23 November 2015: According to a report released by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), doubling the share of renewable energy in the world's energy mix by 2030 could result in half the emissions reductions needed to stay within the below 2°C warming goal. The report, titled 'REthinking Energy 2015,' adds that energy efficiency could supply the remaining emissions cuts necessary.

Standing Committee on Finance Reports to COP 21 [viewed]

UNFCCC20 November 2015: The Standing Committee on Finance (SCF) has submitted information on the outcomes of its work in 2015 to the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties (COP) in advance of its 21st session. The COP will consider the report under its agenda item on matters relating to finance. The report (FCCC/CP/2015/8) covers, inter alia, the meetings, forums and virtual forum of the SCF, the development of a working paper on coherence and coordination of forest finance, and work on the biennial assessment and overview of climate finance flows.

ADP Co-Chairs Release Scenario Note for Paris Negotiations [viewed]

UNFCCC20 November 2015: Co-Chairs Ahmed Djoghlaf (Algeria) and Daniel Reifsnyder (US) have released the scenario note for the 12th part of the second session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP 2-12), which is scheduled to take place from 1-5 December 2015, in conjunction with the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC. The scenario note sets out the Co-Chairs' proposed organization of work for the meeting.

France Releases Pre-COP 21 Aide-Mémoire [viewed]

cop2119 November 2015: The incoming French Presidency of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNFCCC has released an aide-mémoire summarizing the outcomes of the Pre-COP meeting held from 8-10 November 2015 in Paris, France. The aide-mémoire reflects the incoming Presidency's "understanding of the broad lines of the discussion." The documents sets out the key messages from the four working groups on equity and differentiation, ambition, post-2020 finance, and pre-2020 action and support.

UNGA Meets Informally on Refugee Crisis [viewed]

unga7019 November 2015: The UN General Assembly (UNGA) held an informal meeting on advancing a comprehensive response to the global humanitarian and refugee crisis. Participants discussed: providing protection including through third-country resettlement; ensuring adequate and predictable financing; and increasing support to receiving countries. Many said it is not possible to continue business-as-usual in humanitarian affairs, and welcomed the upcoming World Humanitarian Summit.

Bahamas, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Submit INDCs [viewed]

UNFCCC18 November 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that the Bahamas, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines have formally submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), bringing the total number of Parties that have made their submissions to 168. The submission from the Bahamas covers the energy and forestry sectors; that from Saint Lucia covers energy, electricity generation and transport; and Saint Vincent's INDC focuses on energy (including domestic transport), industrial processes and product use, agriculture, land use, land-use change and forestry (LULUCF), and waste.
