July 2008: The Ohio State University, the World Meteorological Organization

(WMO), the UN Food and Agriculture Organization's (FAO) Regional Office for

Asia and the Pacific, and the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and

Pacific (ESCAP), in collaboration with a number of agencies, are organizing the

Regional Symposium on Climate Change, Food Security, Sea Level Rise and

Environment in South Asia in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 25-29 August 2008.

26 June 2008: During its sixtieth Session, which took

place from 18-27 June 2008, the World Meteorological Organization's (WMO)

Executive Council conferred the fifty-third IMO Prize, the Organization's most

prestigious award, to Qin Dahe (China) for his scientific research and for

promoting international cooperation in meteorology.

“Implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in the context of

current challenges,” Kemal Dervis, Administrator of the UN Development

Programme (UNDP), noted that economic growth is threatened by shortages of

natural resources such as energy, water and atmosphere, and stressed that MDG 7

on environmental sustainability is an absolute key priority.
