Event: First Steps after Copenhagen: The Role of the Private Sector in Dealing with Climate Change [viewed]
This workshop is jointly organized by the Business Humanitarian Forum, the International Chamber of Commerce Switzerland, the UN-mandated University for Peace (UPEACE) and the UN Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP-FI). The workshop is intended to showcase the private sector's role in dealing with climate change both in terms of the post-Copenhagen process and policy framework, and its ability to address challenges and lead the way toward a low-carbon economy.
9 March 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has posted on its website letters from the Governments of India and China, dated 8 and 9 March respectively, informing of their wish to be listed in the chapeau of the Copenhagen Accord.
European Environment Agency's Third Message for the International Year of Biodiversity Highlights Links with Climate Change [viewed]
9 March 2010:The European Environment Agency has published the third biodiversity message in its series of ‘10 messages for 2010,' which focuses on freshwater ecosystems, and highlights links with climate change.
8 March 2010: Dominique Strauss-Kahn, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), took part in a panel discussion at the Kenya International Conference Center in Nairobi, and addressed the twin challenges facing Africa: to revive strong growth and reinforce resilience to shocks, including those related to climate change.
5 March 2010: Caribbean and EU diplomats, as well as representatives from civil society, met to discuss an enhanced Caribbean–EU partnership at a seminar in Barbados held from 4-5 March 2010, with a view to launching a drafting process of a new EU-Caribbean strategy addressing, inter alia, challenges related to climate change.
3 March 2010: US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation Regarding Climate Change on 3 March 2010.
IFPRI Launches Project to Identify Approaches to Improve Agriculture in Developing Countries [viewed]
1 March 2010: The International Food Policy Research Institute's (IFPRI) new project, Global Futures for Agriculture, will evaluate promising technologies, investments and policy reforms to improve agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability in developing countries.
March 2010: The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) has released the January-March edition of "Rice Today." This issue features three articles that address climate change issues.
GEF STAP Addresses Needs for Scientific and Technical Advice Arising from the Copenhagen Accord [viewed]
8 March 2010: The Global Environment Facility's Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (GEF STAP) held an open meeting at the International Fund for Agricultural Development's (IFAD) headquarters in Rome, Italy, with representatives from GEF agencies, the GEF Secretariat, GEF Evaluation Office and Conventions, and observers from the GEF Council.
