Climate Talks Open in Bonn [viewed]

31 May 2010: The Bonn Climate Change Talks began on 31 May 2010, and are scheduled to conclude on 11 June. The meeting brings together representatives from 182 countries and will include the 32nd sessions of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UNFCCC, the tenth session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA 10) and the 12th session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Further Commitments for Annex I Parties under the Kyoto Protocol (AWG-KP 12).

Global Climate Change Alliance Regional Conference for Asia Held [viewed]

31 May 2010: Representatives of the EU, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Maldives, Myanmar and Nepal participated in Asia's regional conference of the Global Climate Change Alliance on 30-31 May 2010, in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The regional conference took stock of challenges posed by climate change in Asia, focusing on vulnerable countries' specific problems, strategies and response actions, existing financial mechanisms and prospects for reaching an effective global agreement on climate change.

First World Congress on Cities and Adaptation Adopts Bonn Declaration [viewed]

30 May 2010: The first World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change, which addressed the theme "Resilient Cities 2010," convened from 28-30 May 2010, in Bonn, Germany. The Congress was organized by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainable Development, the World Mayors Council on Climate Change and the City of Bonn, and it sought to support the implementation of the UNFCCC Nairobi Work Programme on Adaptation by providing a forum for exchange, learning, networking, debating and policy making on approaches and solutions for climate change adaptation and resilience-building in cities and municipalities, including local adaptation practices.

CBD Working Group Discusses Post-2010 Strategic Plan [viewed]

28 May 2010: The third meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Review of Implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) took place from 24-28 May 2010, in Nairobi, Kenya. During the meeting, delegates addressed an updated and revised strategic plan for the post-2010 period, including climate-related targets, which remains bracketed pending resolution of financial issues and negotiations on access and benefit-sharing (ABS).

UNFCCC Publishes Further AWG-LCA Submissions [viewed]

28 May 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published an addendum (FCCC/AWGLCA/2010/MISC.2/Add.2) comprisingtwo further submissions from the Russian Federation and Tuvalu on additional views on which the Chair  of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) may draw in preparing text to facilitate negotiations among parties.
