Event: 31st Session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme [viewed]

This session of the Joint Scientific Committee for the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) will discuss a WCRP programme. A key topic of discussion will be the role of WCRP research in the Global Framework for Climate Services, including how to develop the next generation of applied climate research. The WCRP is sponsored by the International Council for Science, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

UN Secretary-General's Report on NEPAD Highlights the Impact of Climate Change on Africa's Development [viewed]

8 February 2010: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has released a report titled “Social Dimensions of the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD),” which reviews the state of progress in the implementation of NEPAD, as well as its social dimensions within the context of the converging global food, financial and energy crises, and climate change (E/CN.5/2010/3).

Event: Second Meeting of Caring for Climate Signatories [viewed]

This meeting is by invitation only and is organized by the UN Global Compact. The event will bring together some 150 corporate practitioners, climate experts and civil society leaders. Participants will discuss best practices in managing risks and opportunities associated with climate change action. In particular, the meeting will focus on advancing mitigation efforts and promoting the diffusion of innovative low-carbon technologies in particular in developing markets and emerging markets, and enhancing the understanding of the role of business in adapting to the impacts of climate change.

UNEP Executive Director Defends IPCC Assessment Findings [viewed]

UNFCCC Publishes Copenhagen Meeting Reports [viewed]

UNFCCC Publishes Information Note on New COP and COP/MOP President [viewed]

2 February 2010: The UNFCCC Secretariat has published  an information note (YdB/DBO/NAW/esp/Log 276-10)  informing parties that Lykke Friis, the Danish Minister for Climate and Energy, has replaced Lars Løkke Rasmuseen, the Prime Minister of Denmark, as the President of the Conference of the Parties (COP) and the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP/MOP) for the remainder of the mandate of Denmark's presidency.

Event: International Polar Year Oslo Science Conference [viewed]

The International Polar Year 2007-2008 (IPY) was an intensive, internationally coordinated scientific research campaign focused on the Arctic and the Antarctic, sponsored by the International Council for Science and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). This conference will celebrate and publish early results from the IPY, with particular emphasis on new knowledge about the linkages between climate change in the Polar Regions and global climate systems.
