26 November 2008: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) will release, on 28 November 2008, a new international scientific review entitled “Aerosol Pollution Impact on Precipitation,” published jointly with the International Union for Geodesy and Geophysics. The book examines the state of scientific knowledge on the way air pollutants, particularly tiny particles called aerosols, affect global weather and climate patterns.
25 November 2008: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon plans to attend the next round of climate negotiations in December 2008 in Poznan, Poland. At the opening of the High-level Segment, he will articulate his ideas for some of the key issues under negotiation, such as the nature of the shared vision needed for long-term cooperative action on climate change.
24 November 2008: The UNFCCC Secretariat has released four papers on adaptation in an effort to aid parties in carrying out adaptation measures. Two of these papers are related to the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-Term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA).
23 November 2008: The sixteenth Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum economic leaders' meeting was organized under the theme “A New Commitment to Asia-Pacific Development,” and convened in Lima, Peru, from 22-23 November 2008. The meeting concluded with the adoption of a declaration in which the economic leaders commit to enhance their cooperation to improve risk reduction and fight climate change.
22 November 2008: The 35th Special Session of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Conference, which convened from 18-22 November 2008, in Rome, Italy, has adopted a three-year Immediate Plan of Action (IPA), which will implement an agenda for “reform with growth” as recommended by an independent external evaluation completed last year.
